Import meshes and textures from Oblivion

Post » Mon Jun 18, 2012 5:02 pm

Hi.

I wanted sooner to do some sewers with the ancient sewer of Oblivion.
So, I copied the meshes into the data of skyrim, and when I try to create new static item in CK, it says me that BSversion of the NIF is too old.

As I am not workinf with nif at all, and I don't understand what it wants, I just have one question :

How can I import meshes & textures from Oblivion to do what I want to do ?
In fact, what do I have to do with the NIFs to make it good ?

Thx.

For personal use you can by redoing them in a 3d application and updating the NIF version so that they are compatible with the New NIF versions used by the new game.

For Distribution or use in Mods -- You can't --- Bethesda does not allow assets from one game to be ported to another unless you remake it from scratch (meaning no using Oblivion assets in Skyrim ) -- They do this because some items they use in a game are purchased from third parties and the license they purchase is limited use meaning they can only use it for that specific game and reuse would require relicensing it for the new game so they can not allow the reuse of those assets - So in order to use them in a mod you plan to release they need to be remade from scratch !

Oh, ok. Crap. It was for modding distribution, yes. I didn't know about the third parties.

So, I guess I will have to do my own sewers. Will be done in almost a few monthes. At leas, if I don't give up before xD

For personnal application, i loaded a NIF in Nifskope, resaved it, but it had the same issue. But no matter, and thank you.

Do you want to make your mod public?
If the answer is yes, then don't use other games' assets in your mod(except the Witchers')

You would have to load into a 3d app like MAX or blender and the reexport as the new NIF version (or .3ds or .obj) and create new NIfs since Skyrim uses a newer version of the Nif format than Oblivion so each NIF has to be remade using the new version first.
