Mining ore stops after first hit

Post » Mon Jun 18, 2012 9:44 pm

I added a custom-ore to skyrim to create some special armor and weapons. So far, everything went right - got the new ore working, made recipes for creating and tempering new armor and weapons, wrote some books and notes about the new ore and finaly made the according veins for it.

After placing the new veins on a new cell and linking it to a pickaxeMiningFloorMarker I′ve tested it and realized that the mining process stops after the first hit! No depleted-Message, no ore added - nothing, just stoping.

I′ve checked the object, the maker and linked scripts with properties and did find nothing. i.e. everthing is like the veins made by BETH

So I placed a BETH-IronOreVein for crosschecking and there the process stops after the first hit too!

To me this means its not caused by the script or objects... maybe another CK bug? Or maybe I′ve missed something very important...

Anyone have a clue what causes this and/or where to check what′s going wrong??!

Any advice welcome!!
Thx.

bump:

Still noone has a clue?

Hmmmm, maybe I′m the only one who wants to put more mines in...

Anyway, changed existing mines to give my new ore and that works so far...

I've put in plenty of standard ore veins and got them working properly. The only issue I ever had was improper placement of the marker (too far in, etc), but I cleaned everything up and all is holly-jolly. I have no idea what your issue could be, unless the game can't determine that you're actually harvesting anything. Also when you replaced your ore vein with the existing one, did you just use Ctrl-F and keep all the references? Or did you start from scratch?

Have you tried manually harvesting the ore? Just equip a pickaxe and swing it at the ore. If it harvests normally that way, it may just be a marker placement issue.

Edit: If I recall, there's an ore vein somewhere along the southern mountains that acts as you describe. One swing is all you get, but it can be harvested manually.

In my mines there was a gold ore (the flat one) that didn't work when linked, It showed up as working (ie it wasn't depleted looking for the mining ore ref) but I still could not mine it.

Thx for your reply!

In my own cell I tried both, STRG+F and to use a new one. Not working.
I repositioned the markers too, but that didn′t helped either. Maybe they still where misplaced - can try this later..

The ingame veins where replaced by using STRG+F...

Never tried to harvest anything manually yet!! -> good idea, will try this too!

But for now, I have a serious sound issue to deal with... mining have to wait ;-)

Off to test every ore vein.... forgot I found another non-working one right in the area I'm working... it's a flat iron vein with a properly linked marker. Tried raising the ore out of the ground, but no go. I did a search, and it seems quite a few vanilla ore sources are bugged (bunch of gold ones in one area, etc). I'm wondering if one of the models is bugged and I just got lucky and didn't use it (I'm placing ebony ore veins and a few iron ones in a new location). Hmmm...

I did use the ebony-objects (all available) for duplication... ebony did fit best for the color of my new ore.

Tried them all on a interior cell, maybe they don′t work in interiors *gg*

It sounds like a trouble with the hidden properties, or others. Did you check those in the mineorescript of you new vein/ore ?

Well, I didn't test every ore vein, I just went to the USP's buglist and looked at the known bugged veins. All of them used some variation of mineorexxx_xxx02. Seems that particular model is extremely picky about placement. I couldn't get most of the existing problem ones to work with an 02 (just one), but simply using Ctrl-F and replacing them with an 01 or 03 made them work. I don't know if that's your issue - there's almost 100 vanilla iron ores using the 02 variation alone, plus all the other ores, so it definately works. Just that the reported bugged ore veins were all the same kind...

As I said, I tried them all with the same result - one hit and stop. But I guess, I will do a closer look into where to position the marker on my next try.

Replacing vanilla-mines in the game is good enough for now!
