A Not So Small Complaint. Devs, please read.

Post » Mon Jun 18, 2012 8:41 pm

I was so excited to finally get my hands on the creation kit when it came out.
I started fiddling around with it a lot, reading over some of the wiki, watching a couple of the tutorial videos... I had planned to create a small valentines day mod for my boyfriend.

But, I just stopped trying because there are several windows that can NOT be scaled, at all.
I don't know if it's just a problem of my screen being too small, or what. But it's a big problem, as about half the windows drop halfway off of the bottom of my screen, and I can not do a thing about it at all!

I'm honestly not expecting any of the Devs to read this, but I really hope someone does, and that this is something that can be changed.
I really was excited to get to make my own content for Skyrim, and unless I go buy a monitor to sit behind my laptop, I don't think I'm going to be able to do anything at all worth while.

I know this is going to sound a bit stupid, and may not be the best idea. Or maybe it will be, who knows.
But, there is a program called LMMS, Linux Multi Media Studio, that is free off of sourceforge.
In LMMS all of the subwindows are contained within the main window, and when you slide one off the side of top/bottom of the screen, the main window gets a slider bar so you can move the view over to see the rest of the windows.

I don't know if anyone on the dev team would consider it important enough, based on just one little person complaining about it...but I would just really love to be able to actually get something done with this kit...I feel extremely let down by this, and I feel like I wasted my time trying to work on an unfinishable valentines day present.

The windows in the CK seems to behave in a weird way. If you don't maximize them, they'll drop off the program window! :(

The only thing you could do is to maximize them. This will allow you to work with them.

The ones that drop off the screen, if I remember correctly, didn't have a maximize button.

...I'll go check though.
I do still like my idea, though, to make them function more like the windows in LMMS.

Does anyone have any other advice, maybe?

There are a few posts in the forums that point towards 3rd party programs that grab the handle of individual controls and allow you to edit them, I cant reference any right now , but saw one about an hour ago!

Okay. If you could find them for me, I'd really appreciate it.

This is a known problem, it's even mentioned in the CK's Wiki. I hope they do something about this, because I'm in the same boat as you - so are many other people. Even if they just resized windows - I can deal with ones that are too wide for my screen, just not the ones that are too tall.

I didn't know there were such tools as was mentioned. What are they called? (So I know what to search for...)

You don't have to be a sarcastic jerk about it, Sickman.

Not only for that topical reason, it could be worth to have a look at the script language http://www.autohotkey.com/forum/.
It can manipulate windows in any way and could solve lots of similar inconveniences.

...just for example, this a snippet to set CK's render window to a size of 600 to 400 pixels by pressing F12.
F12::WinMove, ahk_class MonitorClass,,,, 600, 400
Here is a http://www.autohotkey.net/~Lexikos/AutoHotkey_L/docs/

I downloaded the ResizeEnable program, and so far it seems to be working great.
Thanks again!
