So I was on Forbes yesterday..

Post » Tue Jun 19, 2012 2:03 am

Looking for christmas movies to watch with the GF. It was a top 10 christmas movies of all time article, with Die Hard being their #1 christmas movie ever.

Kinda puts their whole reviewing abilities in a whole new light doesn't it?

So yeah, Skyrim didn't get Forbes GOTY, that's probably a good thing.

Basically ^ and-

anyone/anything that has Christmas lists of movies/books/music/entertainment is not worth paying attention. Imagine watching/reading/listening/doing the same thing every Christmas for your whole life. How terrible.

...Die hard isn't a christmas movie, it's an action movie which happens to be set during christmas.

My number one Christmas movie is The Great Escape. Sure it doesn't include a Coca Cola spokesperson (although it did have a lot of stars so maybe) or try to sell me whatever the studios other divisions are tying to push out the door, but that human spirit thing gets me.

I can guarantee every single group that gave Skyrim GOTY has made a decision or a least made a top 10 list people disagree with does that mean it's worthless? No, the fact that it's all someone else's opinion and nothing more does.

Yeah ... but what does that have to do with wasting 2 hours every Christmas doing the same thing you did every Christmas prior to that one?

Which is one of the reasons I can't take Forbes seriously as an arbiter of value.

I didn't even realize that Die Hard was a Christmas movie. I knew it was snowing and wintery at the airport, but I must have missed that it was set during Christmas. I haven't seen it in quite a while.

Still it is a good movie.

If I was doing the same thing I was doing every previous year, I'd already know what movies I was going to watch. I wanted some new ideas but I totally didn't expect Forbes to have an action movie as their #1 christmas movie of all time, I mean it's a modern classic as action movies go but cmon.

I'm not being a snob here, the list of christmas movies is very broad, and doesn't require the movie to be set in christmas to be a christmas movie, like Great escape as another poster mentioned. Heck I'll take Home Alone as well. It's a Wonderful Life and Holiday inn didn't even make the list. There was nothing by dikeens either. Also nothing involving John Candy. It's just a bad list by anyones reckoning.

This is a perfectly fine point to making in a thread about the Forbes GOTY, but their Christmas list doesn't need it's own list, particularly not in Skyrim General.

I found it more ironic that Forbes would include two versions of dikeens’ A Christmas Carol. I suspect there's an important take-away message there that many readers aren't picking up, something about the mistreatment of the common man by the wealthy.

Also ironic, including Gilliam’s Brazil.
