Being a pure warrior...

Post » Tue Jun 19, 2012 4:13 am

I have always played a warrior, using NO spells at all-In all rpgs.

Tried doing the same in Skyrim and thankfully discovered it`s quite doable. The only thing I use are the shouts, which aren`t really spells, but a Dragonborn special talent.

Pleased to see you don`t have to be a wizard.

Pure warriors are doable, shouts make them really cool too. I love being a pure warrior but using fire breath or marked for death. Although the Restoration school is a hard thing to pass up, especially with the ability to heal stamina+health.

I am currently level 40 on my Pure Warrior and I never really had to use restoration magic. Only sometimes potions when facing bosses.

THat's my problem, I always seem to find magicka potions and stamina potions, but healing potions I always never find since I usually scavenge more than I buy. Gotten me killed many times >:(

Level 36 on my Pure Warrior Orc, have not used any spells at all. Although i do allow my self to drink potions of health that i have bought. when i run out and come across a tough enemy i'll retreat as i refuse to use the restoration magic with my warrior. It's very doable.

I find Stamina potions to be more useful to my warrior than health potions :P

really? I found pure warriors are doable In pretty much every game usually the one to watch out for is theif/assassin because the detection is usually too sensetive in skyrim it's has a pretty detection and you do enough damage your first couple of hits. luckily you do not like mages because mages are the ones that are not doable

I have always played a mage, using only spells in all RPGs.
Tried doing the same in Skyrim and discovered it is obscenely difficult. I allow myself to use the Shouts because if I had to rely on spells alone, I'd be screwed.
Pretty peeved to see you have to be a warrior of some sort.

i.e. Skyrim is DESIGNED for pure warriors, just about. Try being a Pure Mage and see how far you get.
Note: Using Bound Weapons counts as a warrior skill since it still relies on the weapon skills to do damage. Only way for mages to do damage is either Destruction or playing Minion Master. Neither is very effective at higher levels.

Alchemy takes care of everything you could need as a warrior and with only a moderate investment. My level 50 build has 6 points in alchemy. The only spell my warrior has cast is clairvoyance.

Is Clairvoyance actually useful for anything? Ever? At all?
You have a permanent quest arrow pointing the way to whatever you need to get to. What more could you need?
I prefer the way things were back in Morrowind days... where there was no quest indicator, and there was actually a level of immersion in finding your way places. When you didn't know automatically where you had to go, there was actually an incentive to explore!

I simply cannot play without restoration. I hate not being able to heal. I'm playing on master and it's essential to heal most of the time, and you won't have enough potions unless you add them via console or abuse alchemy to the max.

Love being a pure mage and I don't like playing a pure mage in other games. Really makes you think in this game. Turn dungeon traps against stupid draugr, raise one as a zombie, oak flesh, heal, summon atronoch, continue on. FUN!

I don't use quest markers or compass. They are disabled in my game, so I occasionally use clairvoyance if I get lost in a dungeon.

I only use restoration as a last resort, i usually run away and allow myself to heal up over time if i don't have potions then jump back into the action. My enchanted daedric armor helps <3 :D

Sometimes the marker is all the way on the other side of a big dungeon and you need to go up and down and all over to get to it, I like the spell since I can just follow it to get straight to the right place, it's easy to get lost otherwise.

I typically cave in and rely on my Bound Swords... or Frenzy them if there are enough of them.

Or... y'know... just sneak past and don't fight them.

The dungeons are surprisingly linear. Really.

I don't know what you mean by abuse. It's not difficult to make healing potions if you don't fast travel and learn what herbs to pick along the way. The other thing to keep in mind, you are leveling your restoration skill to heal, you could just as easily learn to make strong potions to fill that same gap. This game gives you freedom like that. The points you invest in magica could have been spent on permanent health increase by investing them in health.

I keep switching. I love playing my pure warrior orc, but it gets boring one hitting everything with the same warhammer. Then I love playing my battlemage breton but it gets frustrating juggling so many weapons, shields and spells.

I play warrior in every game even when i start over with the intention of making a wizard it later turns out to be a warrior build, i just can't help it but stealth is a must have skill tree to master, there's my tip of the day folks, STEALTH!

I'm currently playing a full warrior too. The only spells I use are Clairvoyance when I'm lost and Candlelight when it's too dark to see anything.
But that's pretty much it.

At the beginning I also wanted to do dual weld (sword + spell) but fell in love with greatswords instead. lol

Pure warrior is completely ocean pacific. Two Handed, Heavy Armor, Block, Smithing with only 1 perk into steel and be a true Nord (maybe put 3 perks in to be able to make Steel Plate because it is really awesome looking). You end up with an extremely focussed character that can lay waste to anything and everything in his/her path.

"Effective at higher levels" - please. Skyrim is not about power leveling or being lvl 81. You don't get it. The more skills you want, the more skills you will need to utilize to survive. Any one skill tree (perks) can only take you to lvl ~20. Focus. You can't be a pure destro mage at level 81. You guys/gals need to figure that one out.
