"Work" AI Package issue.

Post » Mon Jun 18, 2012 6:47 pm

I gave one of my NPC's a work package to chop wood from 12:00 - 2:30pm every day. At 12:00 he appears outside his door and just stand there. If I wait for an hour he'll be by the wood just standing there. However, If I wait from say 11:30-12:30 He'll be there chopping the wood. After he is done chopping the wood he'll just stand there. If I wait an hour he'll be in the same spot but start walking home. Anyone have any idea's what is going on?

This also occurs for most packages I am setting for the NPC...but let's focus on the work one since that is where I am going to hold off until I figure out a solution.

What sort of package or template are you using? Perhaps you need to look into the energy level you've set - have a look at the CK on energy calculations.

I'm having the same issue; my new NPC just stands in front of the wood chopping block and doest nothing.

I gave him another package where he is supposed to carry firwood. He goes to the wood pile, takes some firewood - but nothing appears in his hands. Then he starts doing his "patrol" towards the other woodpile where he should drop his firewood. But again, he doesnt have any in his arms...

Anyone?

I'm also having a problem like this when trying to get my NPC to do things with packages, except for being a merchant.

I made the NPC to patrol around at a specific time, but he does nothing well, actually, he doesn't do any sort of action; he doesn't eat, sleep, or patrol.

A guard NPC I made patrols a defined path in a circle (like my other NPC), except that the action isn't linked to a package. So the problem is that he, when interacted with, stops moving on his patrol forever. Any way known at the moment that can fix this?

I know less than nothing about papyrus, but maybe there is a script to resume previous action when exit interaction with the player.

I know a little about the CK though. Have a look at the AI packages and work packages for the elf in Riverwood, and the dude in whiterun who also chops and carries wood. See if your npc screen matches theirs.

I copied Sigurd's wood packages (the guy from whiterun who chops and carries wood) and renamed them, but my new NPC doesnt do it. He stands in front of the wood chopping block and waits. As for the wood pile, he takes something but nothing appears in his hands, and then starts his way to the other wood pile...

thats weird

Try just using his packages without renaming them. See what happens then.

nope, nothing. I noticed there can be an owner of the wood block, so i set my NPC as the owner, but in vain. I have problem with "lean wall markers" as well. The NPC just turns around the marker but never leans against the wall,...

I think owner is used for theft detection so that probably won't help an NPC use it. I'm very new to the CK so I'm not sure what help I can be. But I'd like to know how this is done myself. :)

Browsing around the AI package I did notice that the Chop (WhiterunSigurdChopWood8x8) and Carry packages had locations specified in their parameter list. Was your NPC also in the same area or did you modify it to work in a new cell? There's a handy button there in the Selected Package Data that says View. When you click it, does it move to the area you expected?

I suppose the next step if putting in Debug info for when he's pausing. You need to know what scrip is actually running there, if any.

Be sure to come back and tell me what you do to get this working, lol!

Yes I selected a specific wood chopping block as the reference (another one than Sigurd's). My NPC just stands in front of the block instead of chopping wood.

ISorry but i dont get your sentence :D whats "debug info"? what do you mean by "pausing"?

The chopping wood marker is classified as furniture for some reason. Have you tried using "Use Furniture" template? I am actually having a bunch of AI package issues. Some of my NPCs choose to listen to me, others try to do everything they can to disobey !! Frustrating for sure.

A quick and dirty method should be to give the NPC a patrol linked ref and set the chopping block (or wall marker) to be their linked ref.
