Can dragon armor only be smithed?

Post » Tue Jun 19, 2012 12:18 am

If not, im gonna just save my points and not spend them in smithing if the only benefit is adding a bit more A/C or damage to my items. But i really want dragon armor so if there is no way to buy or find it then I'll spend the points.

With all due respect, I must say that this statement about getting Dragon armor through smithing alone is false. I've found Dragon Plate pieces in the leveled random loot in a few dungeons at high levels (character level 50+).

Really? I have never seen it. Maybe I'm wrong. But it is easier to just smith it.

No, I've found dragonbone and dragonscale armor in chests. It's really rare, though.

Like Daedric, it's a rare drop. Very rare. I've found 3 pieces I think in a lvl 67 char.

Dragonscale and Dragonplate armor CAN be found in random loot. I have found pieces. I dont know if you need the "Treasure Hunter" perk though, but i had it.

My lvl 50 Battle Mage, who wears a full suit of Dragonscale armor, has only found a Dragon Plate shield, IIRC. Could be pretty rare to find, or maybe he's just not high enough in level.

Found a Dragon Plate helm in a dwermer ruin. Thought I had mis-read the name for a second. As for saving those points and waiting for drops... know any good lotto numbers? :P

Seriously, you're going to need some incredible luck or major perseverance to find all four pieces of dragonscale armor. Went with Light Armor Smithing by not spending a few points here and there on perks that just didn't look like they were worth it (Wind Walker, Deft Movement, etc).

Since you can get smithing to 100 in less than 40 minutes id recommend doing that

Even if he got really lucky and found all 4 pieces of Dragonscale armor, he wouldn't be able to improve them as much without the smithing perk.
