Post » Mon Jun 18, 2012 4:49 pm

When i make a mod for skyrim and want to try it. Do i have to restart skyrim every time i make a update for it or can i just write something in the console so that skyrim self update. Like "Reload" or something like that?

You need to restart the game in order to see any changes. Plugins are loaded on launch.

The only thing you might get away with are scripts, but I wouldn't recommend it. The engine is touchy at best.

by restart, they don't mean "Make new character", btw.
you need to exit and restart Skyrim.

However it's always recommended to do a clean, new character when playtesting mods. You can just make a quick one through the console on the title screen.

You can use the console from the title screen, unlike in previous titles. If you type a coc command to anywhere, it'll make you a level one Dovakhin character (aka the promo character Todd was playing, complete with iron armour, a sword and potions).

It's a really nice way to quickly make a character to test your mods.

The best part is that since the Creation Kit is also run through Steam, every time you open Skyrim you have to close the CK. That doesn't put a huge dent in workflow or anything. Waiting an additional 3-5 minutes every time after you test a little change to get back into the CK... -_-

You can run Skyrim and the CK together fine. Hell, I'm currently running Skyrim and two copies of the CK at the same time. Apart from my RAM screaming it's absolutely fine,

Wut... Every time I try to run Skyrim with the CK open it gives me the "You are already running a game" error thing... (Sometimes it doesnt, and the CK just crashes instead...)

Only thing I do differently is launch the CK directly through CreationKit.exe. It still brings up the Steam Wrapper however but perhaps try that?

Or try setting Steam into offline mode.

My steam is online and I can run the Creation Kit and Skyrim together just fine. And I even load both through Steam.

Same here. I launch Skyrim and the CK both from desktop icons. I have yet to have an issue, even with 2 instances of the CK running.
