Fine tuning object movement

Is there a way to make moving an object with z+mouse move less?

Snap to's are off.

Example of what I mean: Trying to line up a roof piece and it's just a hair too high, z+mouse (slowly moving) and it jumps down a hair too low, slightly move it back up and it's a hair too high, I need that middle ground.

Shift+q then clicking on a reference then ctrl+k doesn't do the trick it's still that hair too high or low.

It's not THAT visible in game and I CAN hide it with a roof beam, but there are more instances I just want more control over movement when placing things.

If you double click on the roof piece you are trying to line up, you can type in a specific Z value, try changing it until it matches by the exact amount you need.
