Sudden framerate drops with HD Textures.

Post » Tue Jun 19, 2012 1:24 am

Hello.

I'm pretty satisfied with this HD Pack, the game does look better. However, I do face an annoying issue, that happens pretty often. When I'm indoors, and going outside again, as soon as I'm outside, the framerate drops completely and the game becomes barely playable. The only way to get rid of this is to leave the game, and re-launch it. Reloading an older save does not change anything.

This does not happen with the "Vanilla" textures so I'm pretty confident to say it's an issue within this HD Pack.

Am I the only one?

Thanks,

nobugplz. :)

What are your specs? Sounds like the GPU is not up to the task.

GTX560Ti. Only 1Gb of RAM but I'm only playing on a 19" monitor (1280x1024). The game is perfectly playable with the HD textures, minus those sudden framedrops.

1 GB of RAM? System or VRAM?

Yep, that's the issue. You're running out of VRAM. That's why exiting fixes it.

If I play for a while, my Skyrim is using about 1.5 GB of VRAM at peak.

Too bad. Well I'll stay with the Vanilla textures. At least it's not like there's a big difference with / without the HD ones.

Thanks guys.

I used to have issues with lagging as well and I had 1 GB of VRAM. I just solved theissue though. Go to your documents, then my games, then Skyrim; find the Skyrim.ini file and delete it. Now when you launch skyrim it will create a new ini file and it should stop lagging.

That's exactly what I said to do, Go my thread, I explain it there, I have found a solution, use it. It should work. http://www.gamesas.com/topic/1344462-fpsstuttering-hi-res-pack-fix/

I've just tried but still got those stutters / framerate drops. A funny thing though, sometimes, it happens only when looking in a specific direction. If I look another way or move away enough from the "stutter" area, the game becomes smooth again.

Have you tried lowering your AA and draw distances? I spent some time in the nVidia TweakGuide today and it made a real difference. On my GTX460 1GB dropping to 2x MSAA, 8x AF, No Sky reflection, High Shadows, and dropping 2-3 in the advanced sliders. I can keep 50-60 fps at 1280x720.

Much more important to me to keep hd textures than AA and draw distance.
