[0WIPREQ] unable to open exported Skyrim nifs in blender?

Post » Tue Jun 19, 2012 10:23 am

Hello there, I was wondering if someone could help me make the model for the Hat of Tim the Enchanter from Monty python and the holy grail or even better make it please? I can extract the nifs. from skyrim by using FOMM, but when I try to import them into blender I get the Python error message "ValueError: string to long"

Any one able to help me out on this and maybe link a few tutorials as I need to put two meshes together but have never really moddled before.

Thanks for reading

I don't think Blender currently works with Skyrim NIFs.

What about Gmax? Been a few years, but that free version of Max (if it's still around) used to open nifs, or there was a plugin that allowed it.

For right now the exporters are not really updated yet so you have to be a bit creative --- ie. open the Nif you wanted to import into Nifskope and use the export to .obj or .3ds function to export the model --- import that into Blender - make adjustments - export back to .3ds or .obj -- open the Nif again in Nifskope and use the import .3ds or .obj function to reimport the adjusted model -- adjust as needed and save as new nif. (takes some playing around but can usually be worked out)

Not familiar with Blender but in MAX you have to use Import not Open -- I believe it is the same with Blender so if trying to use open try import instead !

updated my blender and got it working, seems to be a bit of funny business with the mesh though, selecting all the polygons wont select the face, probably just an oversight, should be able to select it manually though :)
