Textures not updating with edited .nif.

Post » Tue Jun 19, 2012 2:12 am

I assembled a piece of armor from scratch in the CK using Sheogoraths outfit and boots.

I edited the original .DDS files and renamed them. Added them to my new AA for the armor pieces. Linked the AA to the new armor, threw it in game and tested it.

It worked great. Except, I didn't like the colors. So I went back, edited the .dds files. Opened the models in Nifskope again and reassigned the edited .dds. Saved As and replaced the files.

Went back in the CK, reassigned the .nifs to the AA for my armor, Loaded the game.

My armor still has the old color scheme. When I open the models in Nifskope they show up with my new colors. So why isn't the game registering my changes when I load my character?

Weird, when I go and try to assign a .dds to the model now in nifskope and I save it, it doesn't save the changes. I'm confused.

Novice at using this obviously, looking for help.

If you're just retexturing It would be easier to use a texture set in the CK. (Make a texture-set with your textures under Miscellaneous/Texture Sets and then select that texture set in the object's model-selection menu)

Anyway: have you created new files with new names or just saved the textures under the old name? It's not necessary to edit the NIF again in Nifskope when you used the old texture names, but maybe you haven't saved them under the correct path / name? Also, the CK doesn't reload the textures when the file changes, you need to exit and restart the CK to see the new textures, but when the game also doesn't use the updated new textures I suppose it's a problem

I took the Sheogorath .nif and duplicated it. Then I took the Sheogorath .dds and duplicated it. Renamed both. I put my renamed duplicates in their proper game directories. Went and edited the new .dds files to adjust colors. Loaded Nifskiope and assigned those new .dds files to my new .nifs. Checked it out and it worked.

I then went back and changed the .dds files again and the second changes did not update. The armor in game still loads my first edit even though in the CK and in Nifskope I'm looking at the second edits.

Gonna take a look at TextureSets. Didn't know about that.

Did you save WITH your modded armor equipped and you are loading that save to test changes? If so, reload to an older save before you "found" the armor in game.

Save games can still hold texture data so that is why you are supposed to test mods fresh with a save that has never seen said mod.

What program do you use to edit the dds. Photoshop sometimes tries to add a " copy" to the filename when you try to overwrite an existing file.

I'm using Photoshop.

The save I'm loading was not previously saved to have the old armor. Or any new armor for that matter.

When I add the TextureSet I just made it makes the armor glossy but it still loads the first edit .dds files. Rather then the second edit which shows in both Niskope and the CK as correct. Very confusing.
