Huge Project Need Advice :D

Post » Tue Jun 19, 2012 10:50 am

Hey all names qwerty1jam,

First of I love skyrim, it's a great game that deserves the highest praise and the creation kit is just fantastic. Lately I've gotten a bee in my bonnet about using the creation kit to create a fan game of the webcomic/manga 'Tower Of God' (look it up and read, its great :D)

Please note this is not a little extra for Skyrim, this is to create a completely new game using the creation kit.

The issue is however, while I am an aspiring game designer and maker, I am completely new to modding TES and the documentation on The Creation Kit is vague in areas to say the least. Over the last couple of days I've been thinking of all the things I need to change to get this game to work. If anyone has ANY inkling of how to proceed on any of the issues that I list below it would be GREATELY appreciated.

Character Creation
1. I want all humanoid races to be playable. (I started mucking around trying to make a skeleton playable, all I got was a disembodied nord head (tried copying Nord and changing some things))
2. I know its possible to add talents/perk/skills but is it possible to create whole new trees
3. Can I change the movement speed of certain races
4. Can I change the jump height of certain races + reduce fall damage.

Leveling
1. Can I change the amount of XP gained by skill trees from their related actions?
2. Can I change the amount of skill points per level
3. Can I cause characters to level up via quest/dialogue

Relations
1. Is there an opinion or realation system for npc's?
2. If so, can the npc's opinion of you be changed via dialogue choices
3. Can you set it up so that followers will only join you if their opinion of you is high enough

Followers
1. Can I change the amount of followers available at one time? (Even if its through a quest somehow)
2. Can I make any character a follower? If so how? (any guides?)
3. Is there a way to make followers skill up like you in game, is there a way to control what they skill up in?

Enemies
1. Ultimately this game is a huge arena and each NPC must be capable of putting up the same challenge a PC would against another PC. Is this level of difficulty capable normally? or will I need to give things a buff?
2. I need Characters to be aggressive (attacking) to each other in arena's and be passive in waiting rooms. What is the easiest way of doing this to every character? Copy the character and make an aggressive/non aggressive version? or is there some code I can add to certain characters.
3. Need some NPC's to be allied....like a PC and its followers

Effects
1. Can I add particle effects to a sword strike (trying to create a super-strike type thing)

As I find more things I need to change I will edit the post and I will mark any completed questions.

I really need help with this guys and gals so anything would be great :D

cheers,

qwerty1jam

going through most of the beth tutorials will answer most of your questions here, there is also a stickied post for community tutorials and that should answer the rest of your questions :)

Hey all names qwerty1jam,
Hi qwerty1jam!

Leveling
1. Can I change the amount of XP gained by skill trees from their related actions?
2. Can I change the amount of skill points per level
3. Can I cause characters to level up via quest/dialogue
1. Yes. Check Character-->Actor Value...--> any skill. They have a value called Skill Use Mult. Decreasing it should slow down the XP gained per skill-action.
2. You mean the perks gained per level? If so, I'm not sure, but I'm guessing the following: Search in Settings for a value called iAVD. You will find multiple of them. I think 1 of these can change the amount of perk points gained per level.

Followers
1. Can I change the amount of followers available at one time? (Even if its through a quest somehow)
2. Can I make any character a follower? If so how? (any guides?)
3. Is there a way to make followers skill up like you in game, is there a way to control what they skill up in?
1. Yes, you should be able. There are variables for the amount of summons you can have. I would start by checking the Twin Souls Perk. This perk changes a value such that you can have 2 summons. See if you can find a similar variable for followers. I suspect it exists.

Enemies
1. NPC's will always be weaker than the player. Their leveling works a little differently. They do not gain the same amount of health as the player does. When you are level 5, with 150 health. They can be level 4, with 200 health for example. I also think they do not gain perks. An enemy with 100 one-handed does not necessarily have perks. (I believe)
Changing this is possible, but I think it has to be done for every actor you want changed. This is a lot of work. Making the player weaker would be easier.
2. Not quite sure. But I did see that when I was making perks, there is an 'aggression' modifier.
Check the following: MagicEffects --> Create a new one. Give it 'Value Modifier' as Effect Archtype. Try and see if you can give it 'Aggression' as Associated Item.

Sorry I can't be more specific. Don't have access to the CK right now.

Would there be any way of making the npc's get perk like a character? If I need to weaken the characters I will but i kinda dont want to

And Im sorry I dont quite understand this your saying I can make NPC's unaggressive via a spell?

I'm not sure. Might be possible to script it. But I wouldn't have a clue how.
You could try to edit the templates used by enemies. It seems most generic NPC's are based on a template. You could give this template some perks.
I don't see a way to automatically give an NPC perks.

And Im sorry I dont quite understand this your saying I can make NPC's unaggressive via a spell?
What I mean is that you make them aggressive by casting a spell on them.
In the CK, go to Magic, and select Magic Effect.
Create a new effect with the following information (or edit an already existing one):
ID: MyAgressionSpell
Name: MyAgressionSpell
Effect Archtype: Value Modifier
Casting type: Fire and Forget
Delivery: Aimed
Magic Skill: None
Assoc. Item 1: Aggression

This should create an effect that raises aggression of an NPC, when cast on that NPC.
Second you should create a spell that contains this Magic Effect.
(Alternatively, you could try to create an ability with this effect)

BTW: I was wrong about the perk points. There is no iAVD... setting that changes them.

About the allies following the player:
I found the following setting:
iNumberActorsAllowedToFollowPlayer = 6.

I was looking around in the dialogue box, and found that there is a faction called CurrentFollowerFaction.
Dialogue box switches to "You have someone with you already" if this faction does not have the value 0.
I hope this might be of use to you :)

My number one question at the moment is 'how do I make completely new skill trees'

I know how to make and add new perks but what I really want to do is get rid of all the old trees....add my new ones and then assign what actions gives those trees experience. I would think it wouldn't be to hard if I could Find where the skill trees are listed but I cant seem to locate them anywhere.

any ideas?

EDIT: Okay i did some reading and sorry for asking a question thats been answered. One little thing however there was no word on wether you could change what skills make a skill tree level up.
eg. If I fused sneak, lockpick and pickpocket, can I make the use of lockpicking and pickpocketing level up that one skill tree?

Grr been looking around and basically the skill tree's seem impossible to edit in the way I want.....you cant add or remove skill trees, as far as I know cant decide which actions level up skill trees and the only changes you can make is changes to the perks.....

This seems like a fairly obvious feature people would want to mod that bethesda has overlooked.

Oh well I'll do what I can and move on.

Is it possible to make other humanoid races playable? I read somewhere the biggest issue is something about equipment not being equipable....When i look at the race options (for say....a skeleton) I see a 'Playable' checkbox. Is it as simple as clicking this to throw it in my game?

Oh and I don't need character customisation for any of the new races (as they probably dont have any facegen or bodygen options)

The non-playable races don't have their skeletons set up correctly to make them playable easily, and also don't have the animations necessary to make them playable. Basically, you won't be able to fix these issues without massive amounts of work.

A simple solution is to make a "skeleton suit". With a lot of work you can re rig the skeleton mesh to the player skeleton and set it up as a new race, complete with different sounds. But this again requires a ton of knowledge about modelling and the creation kit.

I know you think your idea is amazing, but if you ever hope to accomplish something it is better to start small, learn the skills you need to do what you want, then come back to your idea later.

Wow, I think this is a way too big a project for a newbie like you to start on, try to make separate, smaller mods with the all the features you plan to add so that later when you've got enough experience you can move onto this.

This is a great idea.
For an example, take a look at my BBB project. It's my mod project, split up into a lot of smaller mods.
Link is in my sig.
