Or a mod. There's a good one that gives all merchants 10k

i heard that with the perk that allows you to invest and gives merchants more gold, the riverwood trader will have 11,000+ though if you want to buy other stuff and sell than any shop should work if you buy enough expensive things to cover the cost

If you're in with the thieves guild, the fence in Windhelm has 4000 gold every time I see her.

One good solution is to go to the College of Winterhold. Almost everyone there will buy stuff (max 500 gold each) and there's a whole bunch of people there.

edit: Nevermind.. I thought you had several items totalling 2000 gold, not one item worth 2000.

I always have a ton of items that are worth more than what the store has for gold. The only way around this that I found without investing in perks is to store it all in a safe place and wait until you have to buy stuff. That way the 750 gold a merchant usually has wil be more because you just bought things from them. So if you sell a weapon that 2,000 gold you'll be able to get it basically without touching your current gold, it'll come from the gold that you made by selling the couple expensive you had just brought in.

It works for me. I usually end up with no loss.

I usually just buy a lot of enchanted items from a buyer until their money amount is enough to buy my expensive stuff. Then I disenchant/upgrade the things I bought and either enchant items or sell the Legendary upgraded items back to the buyer.

As mentioned above, the Riverwood trader always has 10 000 gold to purchase my most expensive items - very useful !

One thing you can do is find a merchant/trainer and train. This will give them more gold than they usually would have. Then you can sell them your items and recover what you paid them in training.

Still means you're paying them in the end if you work it out.

Finish the thieves guild questline and they will gain some more cash, at least all the fences, or just use a mod.
