How do I "save as" in the creation kit - editor id i

Post » Tue Jun 19, 2012 6:23 pm

I need to rename my dungeon. right now it's called bad dungeon. I want to rename it to something else like dumb dungeon.

In interiors where my dungeon is, I clicked F2 and tried to rename it and I get this error"

"Editor ID is not unique - previous object is type cell"

the exterior of my dungeon is called "dumb dungeon"

My esp file is still called "bad dungeon"

I want to save as and rename the esp to "dumb dungeon" and call my interior "dumb dungeon" as well.

why can't I do this? there is no save as...

You can't have "dumb dungeon" as the ID for both the interior and the exterior cells. (Also, the ID is not the name that displays in-game, it's only in the editor for easier sorting etc.)

And finally, you cannot "Save as" using the CK. What you can do, however, is to exit the CK, navigate to your Skyrim/data folder and rename the esp manually

well I am watching one of those skyrim tutorials and I believe the guy uses the same name for both his dungeon interior and exterior. Unless I missed it again.and there is no save as? so my file will always be called "bad dungeon" regardless?

There is no save as but what you can do is go into the Data folder, find your mod files, copy them to a new folder and then rename them. Then drag the renamed files back into the data folder and you'll essentially have a dupilcate of your first mod. The CK will think it's a different mod in terms of loading data and setting an active file.

I do this as a way to back-up my mod for older versions. This way if I run into any major nonfixable problem I have something to reference.

Yup, this is good advice. Always keep backups.

And about the cell IDs. No, there cannot be two identical IDs in the editor. The cell's name, however, can be the same for more than two cells. In the World->Cell menu you can edit various properties of your cell, like lightning, fog etc. You can also change the name here (which is what will be displayed in-game).

Not sure on using same name interior and exterior - maybe same name suffixed or prefixed with 'int' or 'ext'?

Your file should be ok to be renamed in the data folder (mine is 'D:\Programs\Steam\SteamApps\common\skyrim\Data') but you may have to ensure the original name of the file is not selected the first time you run the CK after changing the file name and the new name is! You may also have to check your Skyrim launcher to see that the old file name is not used in the 'data files' window. Finally, if you are using the game to play test your 'mod', it may be that the game throws up an error when first using the newly named mod - I got over this by accepting the error then saving the game with the newly named mod loaded.

The 'failed to enumerate subscribed files!' error seems to occur when you change file names too!

I did a test of all this with the 'Lokir's Tomb' tutorial mod a while back.

Remember the objects "Name" and "ID" are too different things. A Name can be identical to an ID because it is only referenced either as a viewable in-game or as a description for specific ID. I think I got that right lol.
