Dragon is Flying Through Terrain and Objects... this isn't g

Post » Tue Jun 19, 2012 8:02 am

I have a dragon placed in my custom world space, and I don't have it completely navmeshed yet, but I have at least half of the arena (playable area) navmeshed and finalized. I placed a regular fire dragon (Enc...) in the arena, and started fighting him in game to test out the nav mesh.

So.. the dragon lands properly on the flattened terrain (landscape) platform, but whenever he flies, he succeeds in flying straight through the terrain, and my static mesh pillars...

Anybody have any ideas???

Normally don't bump, but this is really important, this bug is pretty much destroying the entirety of my mod. I want to release it before the end of March, and this is the biggest problem I'm having ATM. No Ideas?

Edit: Besides the Dragon being a ghost, because he isn't. He's a regular fire dragon. first "Enc" firedragon on the list.

This might just be a temporary fix, but depending on how big the things are he's flying through you might set up some invisible collision markers around those objects.

Are you talking about Primatives?

There are statics called Collision Markers, they're just invisible blocks that actors can't move through. Among other things, they're what keep us from crossing the border into Morrowind. I think they come in all shapes and sizes and are ideal for exactly what you need: a way to corral your NPC's into behaving more realistically. You can see Bethesda used them all over in places where NPC's might do weird things like fall through stairs.

Thanks, I'll try it out and get back to you.

Edit: Haven't tried it yet, but actually still curious. Terrain still has a regular Normal map on the top side, and still collides with the player, so I'm not sure why the dragon would go through terrain anyway, as opposed to just flying continuously against the terrain wall. Still gonna try these markers though.

It appears that the collision markers are helping a ton. Thanks so much.

Edit: I was wrong.

You can also consider looking at the AI package you are using for the dragon and adjusting flight heights and what not. And maybe use connected xmarker headings to control its flight behavior.

Okay, so instead of making a new tread I figured I'd post this question here. Is there a collision layer that would keep the dragon out, but allow the player in?

Alright, update. Apparently the collision markers arn't working. I don't know why. I've tried every collision layer. Including L_... (something living and dead actors).

Anybody know anything?
