PC Slowdowns when loading new areas (randomly)

Post » Tue Jun 19, 2012 6:22 pm

After downloading the Bethesda HD textures, I get random slowdowns after loading a few zones/areas. I get consistent 60+ fps with everything on max, but when I go from cave to city to wilderness (or something like that), I'll come out of a load screen and ill get like 3 fps. Sometimes it'll go back to normal in a few seconds, other times it wont and I have to restart the game. After restarting everything is back to 60fps, until it gets messed up again.

Specs:

i7-3930k
8gb ram
560 ti
win 7 x64

Then uncheck the ESPs. If the problem goes away, stop using them.

Yea that statement confused me muchly to. If you're getting slowdowns with the texture mod, it's not a bug or problem, it's your system can't handle it.

But it runs at 60fps+ up to that point, and again upon reload in the exact same position and the slowdown is like 5 fps when it happens. The difference can't be that drastic.

It sounds like you're running out of VRAM though. I think they recommend a card with more than 1GB or VRAM for the high res pack.

Thanks for the help btw.

Its actually 1.2 gb (typo).

Ultra settings for the most part, have played around with the shading and AA quite a bit, toning stuff down etc. but it's always the same thing with random slow downs when loading into a new zone (inconsistently). It's so annoying cus it goes from ~50 fps to ~5 fps, with not much in between.

I just saw some tweeks on nvidia site talking about letting Nvidia's tool do the occlusion and AA, will give it a try, also maybe turning off my anti-virus. Ill report back tonight (when Im off work)!

Bet your OVERfilling your vram....Use Process Explorer (free from Microsoft) it will not only show you how much VRAM is in use on your card , it will also show you how much system ram the GPU is taking. None of the other programs...Fraps, MSI....show you this.

I can OVERfill 2 (3GB) 580's ...was not an easy feat ...but doable...once I passed 3 GB it went to slideshow...:).

Just to give you an idea I have 2 - eVGA 560 FTW+ in SLI at 1 GB each (2GB total) and when playing TES it will load the primary card to MAX @1037MB or 1.037GB and then load the secondary to 250-300MB. so it uses a healthy amount on VRAM. The max I have had it use is 1.4GB between the 2 cards and no slow down noticed while in game, I have the high res texture pack installed, no other mods.

Play in windowed mode if you want to tab in and out.

Off topic ..but hate to have to tell you this...IF your cards are truly in sli...they don't add...its still 1 GB even if you had (4) 1 GB cards...still 1 GB. SLI is INterlaced...one card draws one line...other card draws other line...when in SLI both cards should use the exact same amount of ram....

Are you going around twice??....First ALT/TAB you get to windows.....Next when you go back to the game you alt/tab ..you will see a blank screen...ALT/TAB your way around again to get back to the game ...

I do that a dozen times from full screen ...works every time.

Hi, Camaro I dont know what to call it either but when I take a read out of memory usage on the primary card it reads 1037MB and then I switch to read the secondary and it reads 200-300MB, when I close Skyrim they both return to 10-15MB each. As far as true SLI, if I have SLI enabled in Nvidia control panel to me that is as "true" as I can get it. Yes Iam aware how SLI works Iam giving the OP my information that is actually happening on my system.

NP..as the OP has his question answered .....

Was just mention that as you said..you have 2 GB total...only thing was, you can run 2 cards with a bridge and without enabling SLI ...thought it was worth a mention...lol
And according to my motherboard you don't even need the Bridge to run SLI...hmmmm << 2 card SLI

EDIT..TRI - SLI and Quad - SLI must have the Bridge...
