Is there a way to get the name of an object reference or name or anything? Like if I have the reference to an item is there a way to get its name?

Unfortunately not, unless I've somehow missed something. There are frustratingly few uses of string variables in Papyrus...

Heck, I haven't even seen any way to easily find a series of objects in the world and maintain references to them other than making an invisible "searcher" item that flies around and searches for them - For example if I wanted to find all the barrels in an area, and have a 50% chance to spawn a Skeever at each one every 5 minutes to simulate a rodent plague curse or something, it wouldn't be easy.
