so, i've just started Skyrim and can't for the life of me figure out what the little transparent triangles next to certain apparel items in the inventory means... i though it meant that the tagged item had a better value, but that doesn't hold.

can someone enlighten me??

It's supposed to denote that it might be better than what you have currently equipped for that 'slot'.

i thought it was what you have equipped, unless an item is better then it shows the item you should be using

ya, i thought it meant better in some way, but when i experiment with what i've got equiped and those with the little triangles, that doesn't alwasy hold; someitmes what i've got equipped is better thant those with the triangles; that's why the confusion. Hmmm. is there something extra that it signifies?

OK.

If it's a small, very thin-walled, isoceles triangle then the system thinks it's better than what you have.

If it's a stylized arrow pointing to the right it's what you have equipped.

If it's a tiny, solid, equilateral triangle then it's a "Favorite". (I think that's what the Favorite icon is - I'm not in my game right now. )

Edit: A "Favorite" is denoted by a small solid pentagon (non-equal sides) pointing to the right.

Yeah I think its supposeed to mean the item is better than the one you have equipped. Too many symbols next to your items if you ask me.
It confused me that did as well.
