How to create a slow spell with frost damage?

Post » Wed Jun 20, 2012 12:16 am

You know how frost damage makes an NPC slow down?

Well I am editing custom spells and I want a spell that will cause only a little bit of damage, but will slow down an NPC for 10 seconds or so.

Each frost spell in the game has a special 'frost slow' effect that is separate from the damage. The problem is that editing the duration of this effect doesn't seem to work.

Whether it's a concentration spell or a fire and forget projectile, the slow effect is only momentary. If you make a spell with only frost slow effects, nothing happens at all. And you can't add alchemy damage speed effects to spells for some stupid reason.

Anyone have any ideas? I thought this would be easy and making Fusrodah a spell would be difficult. Turned out to be the other way around.

But it can be produced into a standard magic effect and placed in spells.

Alchemy effects are all "Self" delivery types (even poison effects). To add an effect to a spell, the delivery type and the casting type need to match that of the spell in general and other effects. If you're creating an offensive spell, the delivery will be target. Target and self obviously don't match, so you can't combine the two.

If you want to add the alchemy slow to an offensive spell, create a duplicate of the effect and set it to target instead of self.

Though the alchemy effect and the frost slow effect are both pretty much exactly the same other than the frost slow having a taper duration where the alchemy one doesn't, so there's really no reason the frost damage slow shouldn't work.

I think the whole speed damage is bugged. For certain if you change the players speedmult you have to jump, sprint or change inventory weight for it to work. Not sure about how it effects NPCs though.

I've always thought it seemed bugged when I used it against enemies. I've applied Slow poisons to enemies and it didn't seem to do much if anything.

But other people seem to act like it works perfectly fine, so I just figured maybe it was just me not noticing it, since I've never specifically tested it.

The slow effect from enemies seems to work perfectly on you, though. I can get hit by 1 ice spike and move like a snail for a fair bit of time.

Yeah, I think it's bugged too.

Has anyone figured out how to attach Clear Skies to a working spell?
