Markarth Wants my head on a stick : V

When i first enter the town, I usually ignore the quest where somebody gets stabbed and then this dude hands me a note. Cause I couldn't care less about his problems. but this time i decided to do that quest.

the rest of this contains spoilers.

Then the guy who hands you the note is found dead. the guards then try to falsely arrest me. that's not happening so i kill as many as i can. finally they just keep on coming so i submit, and they put me in jail. I seem to have no choice but to bust out with the leader of the forsworn, a sect of people I take great pleasure in butchering, so i really didn't like doing that. but it seems like i have to. doing this causes all the guards in Markarth attack me with the intent to kill any time i go anywhere near Markarth. what did I do wrong?

You can kill the prisoners and then do a solo run of the dungeon. That's a plot fork.

The surviving silver-blood will give you back all your items and will use his influence with the Jarl to remove your bounty. Everybody in the city will be complaining how guards could throw such an awesome person in jain in the first place.

You can kill all guards at the end of the quest if you run WITH the forsworn. It will remove the bounty if you don't leave any survivors in the general city area.

Yes, like Komodo said, there are quest branches that allow you to make different choices.

Also, if you do make the choice that you did:

You can still kill the Forsworn after escaping if you don't like them. When I did that quest, after escaping the prison, I helped kill the Forsworn. I did get a bounty, I guess for acting as a vigilante, but I was still able to make that choice.

Also, in the main quest:

If seems that if Markarth switches who owns it during the negotiation quest, the bounty goes away. In the negotiations, Markarth was given up to the Stormcloaks, and when I returned there, I had no bounty.
