I have no idea what I did, but I broke Skyrim...(CTD when sa

Well I haven't actually played for about 5 days, since I've been trying to figure out how to set up a worldspace, which no one apparently knows how to do at all (or at least nobody responded when I posted screenshots of the procedure I was going through to tell me where I was going wrong) - so I deleted everything I had tried to do with worldspaces with the cleanup in the setup options (or at least I think I did, removing all the accidentally modified external cells and things) and went back in to make some tweaks to a spell..and now I can't save.

Every time I try, Skyrim does an immediate CTD.

I went back and doublechecked, and all the fiddling around I did trying to get worldspaces to work is no longer in the mod, but something is evidently still messed up, because skyrim simply will not save with the mod loaded. Period.

This means that everything I've done since I first started modding is now useless. All the spells, the start of work on a quest, the dungeon I'd started to build...My last backup was only a few days ago, and it also is having this problem, and I have no idea what it is that I did to cause it to do this in the first place.

I assume that I could load the mod, manually select things that I know were working, and save them out again as a new mod, but that's gonna be a pain.

Here's the problem I was having earlier (before I tried going in the game to tweak my spells:

Don't think this is what crashed it, but who knows?

Did you - When in Skyrim - load a Saved Game from a time when you were testing your worldspace mod?

If you did, try making a new game in skyrim and see if the problem persists.

If it does not persist, it's a dirty save issue.

Worldspace, yes, I saw your thread ... but it's over my head, try PMing one of the worldspace crew on one or two of the big threads about it. Or just bump those topics and ask for some help. As far as I know, not too many people tried it ... So your target audience is a bit small.

I loaded saves from more than a month ago to test before I posted...it's not a bad savegame.

I'm a bit confused.

Whether you load any saved game, or start a new game, you get the same problem?

Yup. And I literally have no clue what's causing it. It doesn't happen if I don't load my mod, but I can't find anything that's still in there that could even theoretically mess up the ability to save games...(Cue Twilight Zone music)

Actually, looking at your suggestion, I went back and started a new game, and in THAT, I can save...so I guess to find the problem, I can start adding the new spells and things and when I can no longer save, I'll know where the problem lies...though some of the old saves I had problems with didn't have any of the new spells either...so maybe it's the framework of the new quest I've been working on (though it doesn't even have a story node attached to it yet, so I don't know how it could be interfering...can a quest start without a node to trigger it if it doesn't have "Start enabled" on?

Well when you go to save your game what protocol is taking place? Like, what is the game doing first to last in order to save your game? It has to do with that in some way.

:(

Neither can I. But there must be (because you tested with no mod and all is fine)

Neither can I think of anything that you can mod that would cause saving to crash the game, tbh.

I guess there must be a corruption in one "file" or other, in your mod.

At that point ... And I know, it's a real pain ... I would do what you suggested and drag things out of the old mod into the new. And I know it's even more of a pain, but I would do so "one at a time" (and test)

(Just a thought, before you do ... DId you remove any script files that were part of the old mod? If you did and you put them back ...?)

didn't remove any script files...all I got rid of was the location and worldspace I'd been trying to define, and cleaned up the cells I'd accidentally flagged while fiddling with it.

It might actually be easier to save out things one at a time and delete them...I can always re-import them later once I find out what's causing this...

OK, here's a weird error: "Forms: Failed to CreateGroupData for Refr Form 'inv_skyrimCloudShape03_50 (001DA91) - Now I don't remember ever doing anything with any such item, ever. Might this have been in one of the cells I had accidentally changed and then reverted?

It's in 4 cells - All wilderness - They are the low clouds you see around the slopes of mountains

(I don't know what data to give to to tell you which four cells??)

There is a _25 object (ignore the bit in brackets) that is basically the same, but a lighter shade of blue /// which I think is just a difference in the nif file.

Well after much fiddling, I can save again...still have no idea what was causing the problem, either. May have been one of the things I was fiddling with on the quest, or I may have missed a cell (some cells seemed to be getting reflagged even after I "Cleaned them up" - possibly because some object was getting missed that was in there and kept showing up as flagged...
