I want to have a section of mine darker than the rest but I don't want to change the cell lighting to achieve that because I want it DARK and I would then have to light the rest of the mine with a lot of torches etc...

Is there a way to darken a spot as opposed to lighting it?

You can put a roombound area around the area you want different and then use a different lighting template for just that area (double click on the roombound and edit the lighting template in the bound data tab).
