What weighs so much?

Post » Wed Jun 20, 2012 3:48 am

In Oblivion you could sort everything you are carrying by weight with just a click, so you could line up all your heaviest items, and decide if you REALLY need to be carrying them.

In Skyrim you have to scroll through everything, putting the mouse pointer on the item, to see how much it weighs.

I'm always carrying allot of stuff, because I hate being somewhere out in the world and realizing I need something I have stashed somewhere because I can't carry all of this [censored]. Which would be (more) fine, if I could sort it all easily.

This interface got through alpha and beta and this bothered none of the testers? Well, maybe it is just me then...

Which is exactly the reason why you should organise your junk instead of having a huge pile of it.

Remember that there are just a handful of testers vs millions of players. Things can and will slip past every tester for every game ever in the history of the human race. Simple fact.

So yes, this probably never was an issue to any of the testers. You being the only one? Doubtful.

Why are you storing everything in one chest?

If on PC... use this mod... http://www.skyrimnexus.com/downloads/file.php?id=3863

It will show you all the information in a single screen. We knew the UI wouldn't be very friendly in the vanilla game.

While being able to sort by weight would be a nice thing, the first thing we need it the ability to Sort or Categorize our items by some criteria.

My favorite quirk with item weight is that a feather quill weighs 0.5 lbs. the ink well weighs 0.3.

Is it a magical ink well or an enormous feather?

I saw a video of a dude playing on the XBOX using http://www.skyrimnexus.com/downloads/file.php?id=3863 this mod.

Or at least he used an xbox controller.
Or he set up his HUD to be understood by an xbox player but uses a keyboard.

Either way, I think this should be a necessary patch that should be put in for everyone to enjoy. The original interface is complete balls.

In addition you can sort the inventory by weight with SkyUI (which essentially is what you are looking for, travisdead1).

That would be on the PC using an Xbox controller. You can't mod consoles.

You should store your extra gear and organize them into various chest and store them by item types. That has allowed me to manage my inventory and I carry around about a hundred pounds in items I use all the time including my light armor.

I don't think the lack of testers has anything to do with it. I think it's a simple case of poor design. There's just no way that a well thought out UI design could not have taken this into consideration. They either didn't think it through or they just decided to ignore it.

Sometimes I wonder if the UI was the product of groupthink.

For the most part, I couldn't agree more with you guys. It is kind of a pain to not be able to sort items in sub catagories. I don't have any trouble so far organizing my stuff in my house because I have always put certain things in specific locations (alchemy chest, weapons chest, dresser of armor, etc) but with my pack rat habit being as prevelant in this game as in previous titles, i can see chest limits being an issue. But i don't mind it, it adds some realism to the scheme of things, plus forces me to really decide what i need and what I don't. In the grand scheme of glitches and freezing, I think that this is probably one of the least worries on my mind, anyway.

Daedric Feather. All Daedric Items are super dense, hence their increased weight.

I think many things were left undone by the forced march to 11/11/11, and the UI is the most painful of them all. They'll get around to fixing the gameplay bugs, but with Skyrim being a runaway best seller there's no motivation for them to improve the UI now.

Perhaps Bethesda will add rudamentary features like sorting and double-clicking as an enticement to buy the add-on DLC.

Yeah, I do that :) (original OP)

The point I was trying to make is that it would be easier to determine what was "extra" gear if I could easily see the weights of everything, without having to put the mouse on every single individual item, to see how much it weighs.

But the above links to Skyrim Nexus mod (called SkyUi) is AWESOME! Just exactly what I was looking for. THANKS ALL! It let's you line up your entire inventory by weight, and about 10 other criterion.

Just be glad your character doesn't scream, "I can't carry any more" or "Inventory is full". At least you have the option to pick something up, even though it will force you to walk.

Make sure to check ingredients and misc categories. Could be dragon bones, for example. Thems be super heavy.

Dragon bones and scales are one obvious culprit, but I found I still had lots of weight even without those. It was potions. They each weigh half a pound, and I had a couple hundred of them. Start stashing/selling potions you dont really use, and as you get higher level, you can probably ditch the minor and lesser healing potions and only carry the good ones.
