How do you use a function from a vanilla script in a fragmen : V

For example, I want to run DismissFollower from DialogueFollowerScript.
I tried extending my script to DialogueFollowerScript, and then this:
Alias_MyAlias.GetReference().DismissFollower()

but it says DismissFollower is not a function. I feel like I should know how to do this by now, but this subject always gets me turned around.
