CK - No Landscape Plane

Post » Wed Jun 20, 2012 4:49 am

Hello all,

I have a problem in the CK that I solved previously but has reappeared after the latest updates.

When I try to make a new world space I get no 'Landscape Plane'. The 'Water Plane' is there but it is impossible for me to make a 'land structure' such as an island as the 'Landscape Plane' simply is not in place!

I have tried creating a world space with 'Tamriel' as the parent and with varients of checkboxes checked (or not), I have followed instruction from various web sources and used my own experience to try to make my own worldspace but this problem is stopping me from progressing.

Without the 'Landscape Plane', I am unable to create a world space and thus unable to make the 'mod' I was previously experimenting with!

Due to a number of factors including a bereavement in the family, my Skyrim and CK use has been limited to next to non over the last few weeks. I am, just now, getting back to CK use.

When I returned to the CK, this problem was NOT present and I did make a trial world space with an island created by using 'Landscape Editing' to raise, lower, flatten and such the 'Landscape Plane'.

After allowing STEAM to update the CK and Skyrim, the no 'Landscape Plane' problem came back into place. When this problem first occurred, I got round it by uninstallling the CK AND Skyrim, then restarting PC and finally reinstallling both Skyrim and CK. I tried that fix again but still have no 'Landscape Plane'.

The only optional data files I have active for Skyrim gameplay are the two Bethesda HQ textures and I only 'File/Data...' the main 'Skyrim.esm' for the CK. I have tried to 'File/data' the 'Update.esm' and the HQ textures from Bethesda to use in the CK but this does not seem to have any bearing on the problem of having no 'Landscape Plane'.

So ... Anyone got the same problem? More importantly ... Anyone know how to fix this problem - without having to uninstall / reinstall again?

I really just want to make a small world space that I can practice on as a hobby without connecting to the main game as such for the time being and was able to do this before the latest upgrade(s). I probably will not release any 'mod' until I am more comfortable with the CK. This problem is stopping me from progressing though.

*Minor edit to add missing words and remove repetittion.*

Edit for more info: When I create a new world space, select it then double click the only cell in place, the CK generates all other cells as normal but non of those cells have the 'Landscape Plane' in place.

I really do not like 'bumping' but it is either that or post a new thread!

Anyone got a fix for this issue or a link to how someone else fixed it?

As it stands, I really can not make progress with the CK as far as 'landscaping goes'.

Further info;

In the past when the 'landscape plane' was available, I could 'zoom' in and out and (initially before editing) see a 'water plane' then a 'landscape plane' beneath that and using the 'World/Landscape Editing' I could easily make ... landscapes then add trees and ground cover and clutter etc without issue.

As I pointed out though, I no longer get the 'landscape plane'.

I really would like to progress with the CK and can already make 'dungeons', 'basic quests', 'character voice acting', 'dialogue' and new objects from duplicates and such. I just need this 'landscape plane' issue sorted so I can practice more and realise some ideas I have had.

Please, if you can, help.

Just not having any luck here! :(

It may be that when I described the issue as relating to the 'Landscape Plane', I should have used 'Landscape Cell' - or not!

Anyway, here is my final attempt to get a response on this issue.

Please - if any of you have this problem or a solution that works - post here. :)

CK is still broken for me. :(

Did you click View > Show/Hide and make sure Terrain is checked? (If it is uncheck it, then check it again)

Thank you so much for the answer AV!

First off, good news, it works! That is to say, it works after something odd happened,

So, I start up the CK which was installled via STEAM.

I create my new world space then check as you suggest. I find that terrain is checked (as I thought it would be) but no terrain is shown. (?) I uncheck terrain then recheck it and still no terrain. So, in case it is needed, I shut down (no save) CK and after a short while, restart it. Still no terrain on new world space! Check terrain is checked - it is. Uncheck terrain, recheck, STILL NO terrain.

Think about the issue and decide to check STEAM in case of a new update being made available for CK (in last few days - had already updated). Get a surprise as STEAM says CK is not installed on my machine.

Reinstall CK from STEAM (again), run CK, make new world space and check terrain is checked as I still have no terrain! Terrain is not checked so I check it. STILL no terrain! Shutdown CK (no save).

Now, I was about to 'flip' at CK and give up hope but instead I give it one last chance and restart then make the new world space. BINGO! Terrain now displays and is editable.

I just find it odd that CK from update turned terrain off as default it seems, STEAM had the CK as uninstalled for me (I reinstalled CK from STEAM a few days past when updating game and CK) and that the terrain check/uncheck in 'View > Show/Hide' needs or seems to need a restart.

Once again thanks for the suggestion as it does seem to have 'done the trick' overall.

I can usually sort these things for myself, but this isuue was really bugging me. Also, with 50+ views and no answers, I was starting to think that either nobody in this forum cared or maybe I was the only one with this problem.

Every time I start the CK the terrain is hidden. I have to turn it on (I use shift-L) and then hit F5 to refresh the window.
Is there a setting in the ini file that changes this?

Not sure on the .ini thing - not even looked. Previously (before update) my terrain stayed visible on loading CK.

I thought I'd mentioned 'F5' already - but it seems not (been a long week!) I had tried 'F5' to refresh / redraw the window.
