[3DS MAX] Select Based on UV Map Like Blender?

Post » Wed Jun 20, 2012 11:44 am

Does 3DS max have this ability? This was a really useful function for me when I was using blender, where I could select something in the UV map and it would select the corresponding faces in the 3D viewport for editing...is there anything like this in 3DS Max? And if so, does anyone know where I can find it/use it? Thanks in advance!

Yes, use UVW map edit, open the interface and convert the uvw map then flatten it out using box modifier for instance. Select the face in the 3d window and it will select the face in the uvw map edit section, you can then detach the face in the uvw modifier and shift it around, manipulate it to fit the uvw map section.

No I mean...if I select something on the UV map that has a face, I want to be able to select the same faces on the mesh at the same time. So for example if I want to delete like lets say...a wolf's head: In blender I would select the wolf's head in the UV map (since its separated nicely in a visual way) and it would correspond to the same faces on the mesh. Then I would just press delete on the mesh, and poof the head is gone. It made it easy to get straggler faces that I didnt need, and create interesting selections. Is what you're explaining the same thing?

If I understood correctly you want to edit directly on the uvw mapping stack? If so you can select your faces in the uvw screen and collapse the stack, the polygons should be highlighted still when you go into editable mode.

Okay I'll try it. Thank you!
