Broke a door...how can I fix it?

Post » Wed Jun 20, 2012 1:33 pm

Here is what happened. In my mod I was messing around with a door (OrcDoor01) and changed the sound to make it sound like a heavy gate opening. I saved it, tested it in game and didn't like it. I went back to the door and wanted to change it back to the default sound....except there is no default sound. So I basically edited the base ID's sounds and now I can't change them back.

In the Skyrim.esp the door's sounds are marked "Select Sound", in my mod they are marked as DRSWiidImperialSingle01OpenSD (which doesn't play a sound). How can I get the Skyrim.esp to overwrite my changes?

Things I've tried:

-Tried to delete OrcDoor01 but it stays in the editor with the *D mark on it, no matter how many times I've saved and reloaded.
-Created a new mod called OrcDoor.esp. Loaded it with my Mod.esp and it conflicts and renames the OrcDoor.esp's doors to OrcDoor01DUPLICATE001. Is there a way for it to change the Mod.esp's doors instead of the OrcDoor.esp's?
-Tried renaming OrcDoor01 in my mod to OrcDoor01BUGGY, saved and loaded with the OrcDoor.esp but the same issue happens. I now have OrcDoor01BUGGY and OrcDoor01DUPLICATE001.

What can I do?

Thanks
-Sput

Use a tool such as TESVSnip to remove your record.

Never, ever, ever modify an existing vanilla base record. Always a make a new one unless your mod deliberately and explicitly modifies vanilla content (like a better face mod or something).
Also never delete a vanilla reference, always disable it, and never delete a vanilla base object. Ever.

Hehe, thanks for reminding me about TESVSnip, I completely forgot about it! Door works perfectly fine now :D

After a long day at work I wasn't really paying much attention to what I was doing and didn't realize I saved until it was too late. I won't be editing any vanilla records anymore. :)

You can also click 'Data' then make sure your esp file is select (highlighted in blue) and click 'info'. (If you have skyrim highlighted, it will load every record for Skyrim, which takes FOREVER) Then find the DOOR record for the door you changed, hit delete and say 'yes ignore this record'. Then when you reload your mod that change will be gone.

EDIT: Doh'p, ninja'd by OP. :P
