Crash on startup with new 1.6 patch

Post » Wed Jun 20, 2012 5:53 am

Hi everyone, my Skyrim has stopped working after the latest update was installed (1.6.89 I believe) and I've tried a bunch of stuff, but none of it has made a difference.

Basically, what happens is I'll run Skyrim either through Steam or the TESV.exe, the splash launcher screen will show, I'll click Play, and then a window will open and immediately close again.

I've:
1. Deactivated all mods and tried running Skyrim with and without SKSE and ENB
2. Renamed skyrimprefs.ini and tesv.exe and then verified local content and tried to run skyrim.
3. Updated my Nvidia drivers to the latest (301.42)
4. Run the dxsetup, dotnetfx and vcredist programs in the skyrim folder
5. Deleted local content, reinstalled from disc and redownloaded updates.

When doing step number 2 I noticed that new skyrimprefs.ini were made after running the game, so it would seem as if it gets beyond that preliminary stage before crashing.

Here are my specs, tell me if you'd like any diagnostic output from programs or what have you:

CPU: AMD Phenom X4 955
GPU: Nvidia GTX 550 Ti
RAM: 4GB Corsair DDR-1600
OS: Windows 7 64-bit Ultimate Edition
Newest DirectX and Nvidia drivers

Has anyone had any success with similar problems?

In my experience, this is caused by video drivers.

Try installing older video drivers.
