I got the quest from ulfric to deliver his axe to the jarl in whiterun, then i did the jarls (whiterun) quests upto the dragon attacking the west tower, i became thane of whiterun and got lydia. Traveled for a bit with lydia then told her to wait, left her there for a while and she went back to whiterun. Did the quest for ulfirc to take over whiterun, then became thane of whiterun again from the new jarl ulfric put there. he had also given me the house carl lydia (who i already had beeen given) now, i cant have any followers lydia does not have any dialogue for her to follow me, just the "what does it mean to be a thane" stuff. And no other hirelings or any other npc will follow me. Acting as if i already have a follower when i dont. Help please

This can happen at holds where the Jarls are replaced. The new Jarl will offer you the title of thane, regardless of the fact that you might already be one at that particular hold.

I think you have to go remind the new Jarl that you're the thane; so to speak.
If I remember the new guards may not have the "I'm the thane biotches!" reply if you commit a crime.

I'm guessing you may have to dismiss your follower before you do?
