Dialog List

Post » Wed Jun 20, 2012 11:07 pm

I've started turning the tale within my mod into a quest and I have certain things I'd like certain NPCs to say.

Is there a list somewhere or some other way to search and find sentences that would fit what I am doing?

I've been going through the dialogs in the Object Window (Character/Quest/Dialog) and it seems it will take forever looking up what I want done. Like the sentence "Could You Help Me" or similar for starting the quest.

Thanks!

You can just write your own dialogue entirely seperate of what's there. (Which is actually practically required, and a much smarter thing to do) This tutorial will explain the basics of dialogue: http://www.creationkit.com/Bethesda_Tutorial_Dialogue

There's an "Export Dialogue" choice in the CK's Character menu which will dump all the dialogue to a delimited file, that can be opened in an application like Excel for browsing/searching.

Except that he has no clue who would say such a line, and there are like 50,000 lines of dialogue in Skyrim. :(

Adding your own with a quest will be 1000x easier...

@Fragginborn - So what I do is find a character that uses the voice I want and then go to that NPC's record and click dialogue (I coincidentally just did some hunting through Male Nord via Golldir). That brings up dialogue that's been recorded in that voice and I read through it that way. When you only need a handful of lines for a character it works well for filling a role. I don't insist on exact wording for lines though when I'm using pre-recorded voices. I'm pretty forgiving and creatively write around what I can get. And if all you are looking for is generic greetings, etc you should be able to find that without too many problems.

But, if you have a whole cast of characters you might want to do what AJV is suggesting and write your own dialogue and get actors to do it. Slogging through dialogue is very time consuming and it's tough to get very good dialogue that way (plus it's all been heard in the game before).
