Can't select anything bug 'FXMists' ARG!

Post » Thu Jun 21, 2012 1:12 am

Every single time i try to select an item in the render window, if it just so happens to be inside a volume like an FXMistAdjust, then when I double-click on the item it will select the FXMistAdjust item EVERY FRIGGIN TIME!

It doesn't even matter if the item you want to select is the ONLY THING in the render window, even if your zoomed in so close to the item that any closer you'll be INSIDE the item, when you double click the stupid editor is like 'oh! you wanna click on this giant useless volume that's in like every single dungeon and just happens to have dozens of items in it'

GGGGGGGGGRRRRRRRAAAAAAAAAAAAARRRRR!!!!!111

Seriously, does anyone know of a workaround for this? If not it must be the WORST picking algorithm of all time.

When you try to select an object, always look at the bottom-left of the screen to ensure you got the correct object. If you got something like FXMist or clouds (that's the one aggravatin' ME all the time)... press "1" while it's selected (this makes it transparent). Press "1" again and it'll be completely gone (hidden). If still selected, pressing 1 a third time restores its opacity. To restore all hidden objects in the renderWindow, press "alt-1" then hit F5 (if they didn't automatically appear). Hidden objects will NOT be hidden in-game... this is just an AWESOME feature they added somewhere along the line, as a visual aid in the CK.

[EDIT: I saw your title in the list of threads, and was like... "I know EXACTLY what that is, don't even have to read the question...." heheheh, stupid cloud FXs... (mist in the cities..). ]

You can also hit "M" to toggle all the markers off. This lets you see the cell without all the mess. Hitting "M" again will toggle them back on.

Seriously. I can't remember how many times I linked something to some mist or a dust beam instead of the actual object i wanted. I think I'm going to start putting those things in my cells absolutely last.

heheheh.. I hear ya - sometimes I move stuff like that completely off to the side until later... especially if it doesn't require precise placement (like clouds, mist, etc). But the marker toggle won't work for FX like that... it DOES help tons with all those bloody boxes - but then I can't see my door markers, idles, etc. I think Ma Beth needs to expand this function just a touch; having roombounds (and such boxes) as a separate toggle from 'markers'. Falling short of that... yea - the "1" key is my preciousssss...

I do FX last. After I do layout, clutter, scripting, navmeshing, quest related stuff. THEN I go back and add FX, acoustic spaces, FXtriggers, and roombounds. That prevents me from having to deal with that stuff always getting in my way. Though if I need to edit later, I just use 1 to toggle it. (Alt+1 to un-toggle)
