New Race and class ideas for future Elder Scrolls games

Post » Wed Jun 20, 2012 7:50 pm

Hi there folks, as the title suggests I feel its time to generate some new ideas to give Elder Scrolls a much needed new outlook. The idea of this post is to hopefully generate enough interesting views in hope that Bethesda sit up and take note  So feel free to add anything you would like to see in future games.
I feel that game companies short change game players, as the majority of them have blinkered vision when it comes to RPG`s.By that I mean all we ever get is 3 classes - warrior, mage, thief. But to be fair to Bethesda they do offer a greater selection of races than any other game company.I would like to see an increase in the number of classes to at least 6, that itself would greatly improve things, and generate new interesting builds, guilds and quests etc.So I`ll throw 3 possible ideas into the mix in order to start the ball rolling:
1) Ninja/assassin, should be a stand alone class in its own right. As it always seems to be lumped in with thief constantly for some reason. My own personnal idea of an assassin comes from the game Tenchu. Where your ranged weapons would be Shurikens and throwing knives rather than a bow.You would also be able to throw smoke or gas bombs as well just to mix things up a bit.Plus throwing Caltrops onto the ground would be interesting too, then laying down a wide variety of traps would round the class off nicely.

2) Monk, The idea of this class comes from an excellant RPG I played some years ago called Jade Empire, its a martial arts RPG and would certainly offer something different while catering for the non weapon using Bethesda fans. You would be able to use a variety of styles of combat, involving complex kicking and punching moves etc.Backflips would be excellant too
3) Paladin, would make an excellant class also.Could maybe specialize in using a crossbow?? Its not a build I`ve used too often before,so maybe someone withexperience could comment??

Lastly,I would like to suggest a brand new playable Race for future Elder Scrolls games - Daedra. How excellant would that be?? Its something all Bethesda fans would love to see I`m sure.I`m thinking along the idea of a renegade Daedra who is neither good or evil.It would then be up to the individual as to how they developed the character.Everyone would hate you,no-one would trust you easily, everywhere you went - trouble would always follow you.You would be able to introduce some form of powerful Daedra magic, I`m thinking maybe the Choke ability from Star Wars:Old Republic, where you can stand 30 feet away from someone, lift them up and choke them to death  something like that maybe.Anyway that`s my thoughts, so feel free to add your own .

All of those classes are already in the game. Ok so there isn't a real monk class anymore or no throwing weapons.. But you can still play those styles.

Daedra's not a race but a being. It could be interesting to see an offspring of Deadra and Men or Mer. It was believed in the Ancient myths that this could happen (i.e. Hercules).

Those classes already exist in Elder Scrolls. See: http://www.uesp.net/wiki/Oblivion:Classes, http://www.uesp.net/wiki/Morrowind:Classes.

Just not in Skyrim because Bethesda omitted classes.

[edit]
And playing a Daedra would be daft. You'd start out as a god-like being. Where normally in RPG's you first need to level up and build a character to become as powerfull as a demi-god. Besides that, Daedra don't have any particular look to them, they aren't exactly one coherent race with set characteristics.

We don't even have classes now, you can play your character how you want, do you want classes back or just new weapons?, because adding smoke & gas grenades wouldn't make any sense at all, as if they have things like that in Tamriel. As for Shiruken etc, there's Asian anologue races (people who know the lore can tell you more) on the other continents of Nirn, but not in Tamriel, so unless the next game is set elsewhere I can't see them making an appearance.

Bethesdas combat engine thingy, really isn't upto doing a fighting monk with backflips and what not, they can't even get the forward roll animation to look smooth. Yes it would be cool as hell if we had combat as fluid as something like Batman in the next game, because it's really very basic at present, it doesn't even look like my weapon is hitting the enemy, even on those kill cinematics it looks naff when your weapon actually strikes your opponent, they have lots of work to do in this area. One thing I absolutely hate is you can kill a mammoth or Dragon or whatever and then just walk right through the corpse, like the thing isn't even in the game world just a ghost image of it, what's the point in leaving the corpses there if you can just walk straight through them totally breaking any sense of immersion you had going.

Those classes already exist in Elder Scrolls. See: http://www.uesp.net/wiki/Oblivion:Classes, http://www.uesp.net/wiki/Morrowind:Classes.

Just not in Skyrim because Bethesda omitted classes.

Not omitted. Just chose to remove the formal convention of choosing a class, and allow the user to shape ther character in which ever way they wanted to.

You can still play as existing kinds of classes from previous Elder Scrolls games. It's just, by and large, people ignored them in Oblivion and Morrowind - developing their own class - anyway.
