Nordic Hero Build

Post » Thu Jun 21, 2012 2:15 am

As much as I hate Nords (sad to say in a game based on them...) I have the lingering idea for a really cool sort of character. I'm a roleplayer, so of course I always have to toss my characters in there with some sort of way of "fitting in." Anyway, I'm doing sort of the opposite with this one.

Based on the draugr mobs that we fight dungeon-to-dungeon, this build practically copies what they do and enhances it. The build will focus on these skills:

One-armed
Archery
Destruction (frost)
Conjuration (frost atronachs or dead thralls if you want... deviates slightly from the build)
Heavy armor (ancient nord armor, to be exact)
Smithing
Enchanting (if you want)

With this build, you're essentially making yourself a draugr. I don't need to get into the nitty-gritty details to tell you what sort of perks to take up, though you'd probably be better off taking up an ancient nord weapon. I might actually go with the Molag Bal mace myself, and I may even make the character into a vampire and throw in illusion magic as well. Never hurts, right?

Anyway, I figure since all of the old "nord heroes" seem to be summoning atronachs and flinging frost spells (I know this is, in part, because of their stereotypical dead = cold style), we can do this with a character that's supposed to be a great present-day hero, as well. Thoughts?

Well it isn't a build to fight draugrs, it's a build to copy them. :P

I've been tempted to play a Dovahkiin build, a Nord using just the equipment seen in trailers(Iron Helmet, Boots, and Gauntlets, Studded Armor, Banded Iron Shield and Steel Sword) and the main skills would be One Handed, Block, Heavy Armor, Light Armor, Smithing and possibly Enchanting to keep my guy alive with his cruddy equipment and mismatched armor. And of course he would use tons of shouts. I might do Dead is Dead for the extra challenge, but I'm not sure.

That would work too - I think ancient nord armor looks better, yet similar, to iron armor, and it does have the same stats.

Once you get up there in level, draugr (deathlords) start flinging around ebony weapons (possibly armor, don't recall). I'd keep spells limited to cold-based destro and conjure, and limit shout usage basically to Fus Ro Dah. I'd go completely with unenchanted (but improved) ancient nord gear. You're looking, with the combo of one and two hand, archery, destro and conjure, and armor (one or both) at a VERY powerful character. You should not have a difficult time, at all, even with unenchanted weapons. Alchemy is up to you, I've gotten potions and poisons off of draugr. I don't think I've gotten any enchanted rings or amulets off of them besides god amulets (and Gauldar). Occasionally you get honed or other improved/enchanted ancient nord gear, so enchanting isn't out of the question, but think about the PC. Is he/she enchanting his/her own? I'm guessing no. On a "draugr" build, I would assume that the ancient hero bought, found or had someone else enchant. My personal preference would be to use already enchanted gear and improve it.
