Definitive information on voice acting

Post » Thu Jun 21, 2012 6:10 am

I have searched and read probably a good 30 posts here about voice issues...specifically recording, editing, and importing. I've also checked out tutorials on the wiki both written and video. I've come to one disappointing conclusion....

THERE SEEMS TO BE NO DEFINITIVE STEP-BY-STEP INSTRUCTIONS THAT ACTUALLY WORK!

This is really disappointing to me because one the things I wanted to do most in my mod was to voice act all the characters. It is in fact essential to my ideas.

Anyone who disagrees I challenge you to post step-by-step directions in reply to this.

In the meantime I am going to test and compile some myself and will post them as soon as I can which might take a bit of time considering I will have to test each case personally.

You guys rock, thanks for sharing..really!

Voice files are extremely simple now that it auto generates a lip file.

1-Just make sure you have a GOOD microphone. There’s nothing worse than homemade voice acting on a crappy microphone. I’d rather have silence.

2-Make a new voice type for your NPC.

3-make sure your dialog info is set to your NPC only.

4-Go all the way in the info thingy until you get the last one which has the record, preview and save options.

5-Hit record, speak your line and save. Preview to listen to it. I also usually close the info back out and then go back in to be sure it saved. If it didn’t save check the temp file in the sounds folder. Copy the file name from the info box, rename the temp file and cut/paste it into the sounds/yourmod.esp folder.

6-rinse & repeat.

Note on step 5: to enable the Record button on a new Info, save the info and open it again. Also note that the Preview button only works to replay the item you have just recorded.

These instructions only work for one voice type. If you record an Info for more than one voicetype, the same recording will be placed in all folders! So you only use the Record facility once, to generate the lip file, and then use a proper audio program (Audacity or whatever) to edit the voice files for other voice types.

Now the next step is to convert everything into fuz files. But that "tutorial" is pretty vague to say the least. I really hope someone edits it and provides a more detailed walkthrough of that procedure. I can't make much sense out of it as it is now.
