Re-using old dialogue (and voices)?

Post » Thu Jun 21, 2012 3:44 am

In my mod I'm making, I have a special event take place where I grab a random actor from the world, and make him say special dialogue options. Rather than re-voicing dialogue for them, which would be really unimerssive, I would like to re-use dialogue that was already made by Bethesda. The Actor is never a unique or essential actor, so I should be able to draw from the "general dialogue" that is given to most NPC's. However, there are somethings I'm not too sure on.

1) Will I be able to direct the voice path for the dialogue to the original file location?

My main concern there is duplicating voice files. If I'm re-using dialogue, I'd PREFER it to stay in its default location, without forcing users to download the voices as a part of my mod.

2) Is there an "easy" way of searching for the dialogue I want? I really really really don't want to extract all the voices and convert them all into real audio files just to search through them.

Any help appreciated.

1. it is impossible to re-use existing dialogue unless it is marked as Shared Info specifically.

voice files are locked into topics and can only be used that that specific topic.

the only way to re-use a bethesda voice file is to duplicate it and assign it a new topic, which you will then have to include voice files in your mod. there is absolutely no way around this

2. there is no "easy" way. what i do is type in the text search a few words of something i may be looking for and hopefully a dialogue shows up in the results. or you can open the filtered dialogue window in the character menu tab and try sifting through the stuff that way

Is it legal to do that, anyway? If I were the voice actor I might have strong reservations about my voice being reused in some mods.

Voice files are property of Bethesda, so the what the voice actor wants doesn't mean diddly squat.

Bethesda has given us permission to reuse game assets in our mods. It would be very difficult to do many things otherwise.

Yeah. And, while I honestly don't think they could possibly mind (unless I butchered the dialogue in some way), I quite frankly don't really care what they would think either. Any actors that are a part of the default game, should only use the dialogue that was assigned to them by Bethesda. Seeing as how I'm wanting to add dialogue to those actors, I only plan to use dialogue that was originally meant for them.

i have not tried this myself, but you may be able to get away with reusing the old topics this way:

Thanks, I may try that. Right now I'm looking through the "shared response data" trying to find stuff that I can use.

Hm, well, it would actually matter to me a lot more than property rights do, but thanks for explaining the legality :)

Sorry to necro and take the topic a bit ... off-topic ... at the same time

http://www.creationkit.com/Filtered_Dialogue_Window

Does this work perfectly? (I ask because it appears to exclude some dialogue which matches search conditions I enter (Female Khajiit, from the Caravan Scenes, as an example).

I wanted to extract all dialogue applicable to a particular Voice Type ... Not to use/reuse, but to look through and judge the amount of applicable lines spoken.

Does the Filter-Form not include Scene Dialogue?? Or is some other bug responsible? Or am I just being thick and not understanding how to use it?

(Or none of the above!)

Thanks if you can help :)
