Data folder question

Post » Thu Jun 21, 2012 7:23 am

Ok, so apparently Skyrim doesnt like it when ya keep changing mods.. and after having to restart about 4 times in the last 2 weeks due to f'd up saves, i was wondering if i make multiple data folders and jsut switch them out per char(so i can still try out mods on non-important saves) can i add sort of a suffix to the data folder title and it still work?

example: Data (Sativ)

if that wont work, i guess i can just put in a sub folder with each char's name on it.

I'm pretty sure that whichever Data Folder you want to actually use at the time has to be named Data. Lore and B4 are not options, either.

I don't think you can use different mods on different saves, it's basicaly "game wide" if you understand me.

You can rename your Data folder, but there are conditions. I create multiple Data folders, each one containing a different mod list, for use with a particular character. This works great if you plan to use different mod lists with different characters, as I do. However, if you plan to use different mod lists with the same character you may run into potential trouble, because mod data is stored in your save file.

I make copies of my Data folder and rename it with my character's name (Nariene Saves, Amaryis Saves, ect). When I want to play a different character (with a different mod list) I simply remove the name prefix. I do the same with the Skyrim folder in My Games.

You can also try my new app called the Skyrim Installation Swapper. It manages 10 separate installation "profiles" for skyrim including separate saved games folders and appdata folders (where your plugins.txt file is) so you can safely swap between them without having to do anything to make them work.

Check it out http://www.darkcreations.org/forums/files/file/277-skyrim-installation-swapper/.
