[Request] Question of permission

Post » Thu Jun 21, 2012 5:00 am

Hi everybody

I expose to you my act. I create a mod "home" in Skyrim. Using 3D models directly from oblivion (ayleide and the imperial city architectures). System using an import / export via 3ds Max and NifSkope. Everything works admirably well, I even retexture it all with textures in 1024.

For the moment the mod is "private" (that's just me that uses it) but I'd like to share with the comunity of Bethesda, Steam and Nexus. And I am wondering about the permission and rights.
Some would tell that theres no need, on the other (in agreement with the rules of Oblivion and Skyrim EULA) tell me that I need permission to make such a porting from Oblivion to Skyrim. And personnaly I agree with them. Having already sent a mail request for permission to Bethesda, and I was redirected to the forum, because it was linked directly with a "mod".
So I'd like to know where to go to ask their permission. Thanks

Using 3D models directly from oblivion
You cannot use assets from other games in publicly released mods.

Edit: See http://www.gamesas.com/topic/1378310-importing-assets-from-other-games-in-steam-workshop-permission-supposedly-granted/page__view__findpost__p__20868580

You won't get permission, period.
Porting of assets from one game to another is not allowed.

Okay. Thank you for the clarification, I find it a shame not to exploit if only two or three construction between Elder Scrolls.

Yea, I wish we could as well. You could always try to re-create them yourself using modeling tools; that's allowed. Best of luck!

Yeah technically you need permission from Bethesda. You could PM Gstaff or email Bethesda (look at their website?)...

But in general I think it's still OK. I've seen many mods consisting of purely porting weapons from Oblivion (which I doubt Bethesda has missed noticing, because they have been popular) and not one of them has been taken down by Bethesda. Therefore, and considering Bethesda's close relationship to the modding community, I think it's OK.

It is not OK. You cannot take assests from one game and use them in another.

http://www.gamesas.com/user/602151-hlvr/, it would be good to read the topic before posting, there has already been a link to Gstaff's statement on this and the OP has tried e-mailing Bethesda.

Sigh, yeah I know that technically you need permission, but it seems Bethesda has silently accepted it to some degree (as long as it's minor things). Otherwise all the popular porting mods would have been taken down?
Also, I don't care to read entire topics with posts before posting (instead skim through), because I got better things to do.

There is no "technically" in it. It is not permitted and giving false information based on a skim of a topic and personal views is not a good idea. Best you go and do whatever those better things are.

I think that as the OP has been answered in no uncertain terms by informed members, a mod and admin, we can closae this thread.
