I did some searching here and google and it seemed a lot or people maybe interested in this. Some had said in past thread they would work on this or wanted to, but the last posts were made in Jan or earlier with no indication that this was being done.
I was actually surprised this didn't exist yet. Now then here is my idea.
Have dedicated NPCs or the current smiths of skyrim offer services to improve weapons/armor based on their skill level. Most would only be able to improve iron and steel weapons. Perhaps have an Orc smith for orcish and an even smith for elven armor. High level armory I can concede could be beyond the skill level of most smiths to improve (let alone craft).
Maybe to expand on that their could be quests to find smiths who specialize in one of the rarer armor types. Such as a dark elf who can improve ebony. Perhaphs quest to find lost/rare book for a smith so they can learn to improve rarer sets. Maybe bows can only be inproved by a bowyer. Theseis just some ideas to expand on the foundation I really want smiths offering improvements on typical materials. I would be more than satisfied with just being able pay to improve iron and/or steel.
Expanding even further maybe smiths even offer crafting of items within their knowledge if supplied the materials and payed for their time. Though this may not be nessasry as if you have the stuff and the money you probably can afford to just buy the item. Just another idea to boost roleplaying as I feel the item the blacksmith has for sale probably wouldn't be made to fit or be used by whatever person comes along. Same reason I refuse to loot armor or common weapons from dungeons. Not every armor or weapon is meant to be wielded by anyone, but I digress.
Enchanted weapons would be unable to be improved by smiths as they probably lack arcane smithing which means getting improvements done before enchanting and not being able to have any smith improve that 10,000 yr old artifact from the gods. Which leads me to the next part of my idea
Why is it commoners can pay to get things enchanted but I the player is told do it yourself?
I as a thief have plenty of use for a enchanted bow but no obvious roleplaying justification to be a master enchanter. I am not asking for max level dual enchantments (though if it cost me months worth of gold plus the cost of mats I see no reason it shouldn't be an option) but at least some basic enchtments with costs to balance any improvement. With this I think any weapon or armor, material or style, should be able to be enchanted. I might feel more attached to a weapon/armor if It was feasible and not punishing to use the same one from 1-100 if I chose to invest time/money into its improvements.
Finally and least important to me. I would like alchemy services again maybe not max level (but again with high enough monetary cost as well as supplying the mats). I know there are potions available but with only one effect and no scaling to level. I want to take ingredient to an alchemist have have them say well here's some things I can make you. Or maybe certain alchemist offer certain potions available to craft. I know this could be daunting with all the possible effect and combos. This is why it is least important to me compared to the other services.
Well that's my idea. I have 0 modding experience. I have no idea if this can be done. But I know their are smart minds out there. I have seen things don't with mods I didn't think we're possible so...
I would like this to be a good discussion maybe refine these ideas In to something that can be done. Hope someone out there with modding skills/knowledge will feel/understand what I feel about this. Thanks for those that take the time to read this and to any who may works on this.
P.s. this was typed on an iPad so please forgive any grammatical or spelling errors. I will edit the post if needed.
