Legion v Stormcloaks

Near 300hrs in , I have now started the Legion v Stormcloaks and I have to say after 3-4 missions, 2 of which were Forts, I feel they are underwhelming. I was to sneak into one fort and free the prisoners. But the guys I was to meet were already in battle, 1st one where my side had markers above them in the 1st fort they did not have this and it was hard to tell from any distance and ended up in some FF kills.

Does it get any better , set piece battles out in the open ?

I like the battles... But the Whiterun battle, and the end battle is probably the best in the story line.

Oh thank god, it isn't another Imperials versus Stormcloaks thread...

Either side is basically a mirror of the other in terms of what missions you have to do, except as the Stormcloaks you attack Whiterun and as the Imperials you defend it. You can expect taking more forts and eventually the enemies capital city as the quest progresses. I find taking Windhelm a bit of a headache since it turns into a maze when everything is barricaded. Can't tell you about taking Solitude, haven't gotten that far yet.

Yeah, the really awesome quests in that line are taking/defending Whiterun and taking Solitude/Windhelm. The rest of it is fort taking and steward bribing for the most part. Which I find neat because it's the only time I can use Storm Call without severe consequence.

You just have to go around instead of through a gate. Much easier to take.

To be honest I thought defending Whiterun was the best quest in the line. I prefer being by myself and guerilla attacking Stormcloak camps to the fort quests.

Trashing Whiterun (from either side) was the final turnoff in the civil war questline for me. Never again.
