My Apathetic Furry Problem

Post » Thu Jun 21, 2012 5:20 am

I've got a apathetic furry problem.

I can't seem to motivate my furry predator follower to be interested in his prey when he's following me. I have a couple of different packages on him for different conditions; I don't want my pet to always be right at my heels. He'll go and chase after animals in the outdoors using the PatrolAndHunt template, but he won't attack to take prey down, he'll just give chase until he gets bored or I run away. When he's focused on following me, he's not interested in his natural enemies unless they are attacking me.

The follower packages are part of a quest alias. When he isn't my follower, he has no trouble taking an interest in his natural prey, but he gets a bit apathetic as soon as he's bound to me.

Why can't I motivate him to attack his prey as he normally would in his natural state?

Unfortunately two packages can't run simultaneously, and so NPCs are incapable of human like higher order executive functions like behavioral prioritization. When he is your follower, he is in the DialogueFollower Follower alias, which has an associated package. This package will take precedence over all other packages the thing has, making him behave just like any other follower.

Oh. So you mean like a Wolf or a Sabre Cat. *whew* I thought you were trying to add a tail to Lydia or something.

Nope. I've got a custom alias on him which has multiple packages which determine his behavior, which he successfully follows. I'm not using any of the default packages. The problem is that he is not hostile to prey and doesn't attack them when they are nearby, even when he's hunting. The only time he attacks anybody is when I am attacking them.

Okay, the problem is with SetPlayerTeammate on my Follower script. Seems that a consequence of this is that my follower ignores his own enemies and just attacks mine. Problem is, now he's attacking everyone. I guess the solution is to fix all of his alliances manually, and then write a script that mimics the behavior of SetPlayerTeammate
