How to make LOD?

Post » Thu Jun 21, 2012 1:59 am

I've been making a new world, but to actually see what anything looks like, I need LOD. I have no idea how to make it, though. I've tried Oscape, but the plugin list comes up blank, and the CK generation didn't create any files. Can anyone help me, then?

If this is your first time that you use oscape, you should select the 'data' folder of Skyrim
I'm not at pc now, but if I remember well you should select it at the top of the first window.
Move the mouse over and wait for the tooltip.
If all ok you can see all the plugin that you have.

I did select the data folder. I'm not stupid, I wouldn't go posting on here without trying anything that I know how to do.

Wow, is this always what happens when somebody has an actual problem? You just assume that they're too stupid to do a simple Google search, and that their problem is as simple as that? That they haven't tried anything on their own to try and fix it?
Now, if somebody would be willing to help me, instead of belittling my intelligence, that's great. If not, I can just go elsewhere.

What version of Oscape? Maybe it's old version for Oblivion and can't switch "Game->Skyrim"?

There are two different Lod types right now , the terrain lods and the objects / trees lods ... the first you make with oscape the second with the CK ... the second have a proper thread describing all the process , the results anyway are buggy and not working ...

The Oscape lods you first have to create a heightmap , process it with tesannwyn , create so an esp that satisfy you ingame after severall tests , when all the landscape you created is fine for you you can then port the esp to be read by oscape ....

You load the esp in oscape , and put fill and all the checked box , then select your worldspace name and hit extract .... sometimes the oscape doesn't work and don't starts extracting ... just quit and restart , it can read fine the esps .... then once extracted all you play with the settings and start generating the files you want for the lods .. when all is done click install and you are done ....

the last thing to do is to place a lodsettings file in the proper folder otherwise your lods will not be visible .... of course this is a very rough and general dewcription , for indepth details you need to refer to the specific guides and threads about it ....

@Leaden
No, I downloaded the new version, and I'm clicking on the Skyrim option.

@AntJam
Reeeeaaally, now? Would that be why Oscape's page on the Skyrim nexus clearly says "Requires Vista (and up)."?

@PROMETHEUS_ts
I've already created the world, heightmap and all. Have you even read my post? I can't load anything into Oscape, the plugin list is completely blank, and the fill button is grayed out. I've looked at several tutorials, and all of them say to load up the plugin, which I can't do.

And yes, I have it going to the proper data folder.

Sorry for my English, i used google translate. But on the forums of my native language I could not help((

I made a LOD of terrain in the Oscape by this guide:

http://www.gamesas.com/topic/1354274-creating-new-worldspacesdiscussion-thread-4/page__st__180__p__20453387#entry20453387

But my LOD has only one texture! For example, in the mountains can not see the snowy peaks, but they are there.:

Tell me where did I go wrong?

Several people have had the same problem with Oscape and all have been using versions of Vista. I spoke to the author and he confirmed he only programs for Windows 7 and even though thay are basically the same operating system he has no idea why it doesnt work for Vista. There are everal (including mine) comments on the nexus Oscape thread confirming the Vista incompatability,

Normally I'd tell you you're rude, but here I totally agree with you. People can't really relly on wiki anymore since they did a lousy job in writing details and correct info. I hope they fix this soon or update their vid tutorials (or update the damn ck :P ).

Well, if I can't use Oscape, are there any other programs that can work? The CK is too broken for that.

Have you tried to uninstall and reinstall? I had quite some problems time ago making it run ... I had to install and reinstall severall times but what made it work was moving it into the folder structure of skyrim not in data , dunno why .. but that is how it works for me ...

I keep it in my downloads folder, it's not anywhere near the Skyrim folder. And no, placing it there does not help.

Well this could be the problem because when I moved into data folder or others didn't work , for me it worked only in the skyrim folder , it may be not the reason why but coudl be , anway have you tried contacting the author?
