Object loses top half of texture

I have this mesh I imported, and it works great except that whatever side of the mesh faces a light source "bleaches out" the color of the texture. Anyone know why this might be?
I suspect it has something to do with the .nif's shader flags...

Hard to tell without looking at the nif. Remove any NiAlphaProperties if there are any, and check/play around with vertex and shader flags.
