Farming In Skyrim

Post » Thu Jun 21, 2012 5:19 pm

Just wondering what other people thought of this. . . I think you should be able to buy a farm, raise livestock, plant crops etc. It would be a good way to waste some of the large amounts of gold you accumulate after a while, and would add a bit more of a personal feel than what you get with the houses. For me, the only thing I do in my house is store stuff and sleep every once in a while. If you could have a farm, there would be other stuff to do at your house, such as planting the crops and tending them, protecting the place from bandits and thugs, maybe even breeding and selling horses. Opinions, anyone?

There is a farm available if you're willing to marry a female Dunmer.

Agreed. Grow ingredients at least!

Along with farming it would be nice to purchase a spot in the market places. If you farm you could sell your stuff at market. If you raise cattle you could sell the cattle, or the meat, or leather, etc. I love scorpius's idea of growing your own ingredients too. There is a lot that having a farm would help for.

Something else that I think would be interesting is panning for gold. If you could pan for gold then you'd know the stream is near a gold or silver mine (or other ore mine). Then it'd be even cooler if you could actually start your own mine and dig deep into the mountains of Skyrim.

could be solved by increased house variety and features, something that we all would love to see in future DLC and games

I myself am not fond of only being able to have a house on damn main street. It would be nice to have other options, including a farm.

More options always, farms and castles could be huge gold sinks. A decent cabin in the woods would be sweet to. One that you actually own, with weapon racks and all the goodies.

Oh, castles would be a wet-dream come true. I don't want Skyrim to become a castle building game but it would certainly be amazing if you could pay for a castle to be built with a few options as to it's layout and interior and exterior architecture.

I would love a farm/wilderness shack.

I RP as a simple hunter who hunts across Skyrim traveling from Inn to Inn and doing the ocasional random quest (after my first character, I decided to stay away from the main story line). Currently the only two houses that interest me for this character are the Riften home and Whiterun home. If this isn't DLC, I'll be looking for a mod.

When I first heard "farming" when announced it was in Skyrim, I thought "planting, growing, and harvesting ingredients", not just picking ingredients and selling them.

Yeah, that pretty much went through my mind, too. Bit of a gip, that. You don't actually get to farm, unless you count picking other people's crops to cook/sell back to them.

I really think a few more months and a instal size not limited to having to fit on 5 gig xbox. Alot of things would have been in the game.

oh and Xbox is awesome there are just as many people playing on Xbox as there are playing on PC. Personally I hate playing games on PC and the game works just fine on xbox. and it is perfectly capable of operating a hole lot more.

btw, my xbox is like 250 gigs so i dont know what u mean by "limited to having to fit on 5 gig xbox". the xbox is more than capable of handling way bigger games than skyrim

You misread the quote as some kind of platform popularity comment. It's not, it is just saying 6 year old technology doesn't sit well with massive, open world games from 2011.

The way Sony and M$ are going about their business, PC gamers are going to be nerfed until way into 2014.

OT There needs to be lots more opportunities for spending money, the OPs suggestion hits the spot imo. Personally I wouldn't mind some kind of optional property management meta gaming, or paying for and upgrading a castle which has its own ramifications with local Jarls.

im not trying to start a console argument either, just saying i love skyrim and i dont have any complaints about the performance of the game on my xbox 360. . .
regardless thanks for supporting my opinion lol maybe its the farmer in me but would love a feature like actual farming especially the livestock aspect. . . could be a money sink too if they make it so u have to pay for people to do some of the work or say buy breeding rights to horses so u can breed them and so on
