Adding landscape texture,...how to ?

I've started a new 'test' project. Basically, I've created a 4 quad world by following Karithians' You Tube video tutorial. All went pretty good, until the Oscape bit (which he didn't include a link to the tutorial mentioned in the video). Anyway, I tried to figure it out myself and eventually got there.

I have a few questions.

Is it really neccesary to change the world ID in TesVsnip from 00xxxxxx to 01xxxxxx. When I do this, the CK throws up thousands of errors that cannot be cleared by clicking the Yes To All button.

What problems does it cause by leaving it as 00xxxxxx ?

Is it really neccesary to change the esp into an esm ?

When I 'cow' into the new world, the landscape is all the same texture. I'm guessing that the CK has to be used in order to add different texture to the ground.

How do you go about doing this ? Figured this part out.

Should the texturing be done before generating the ground/LOD in Oscape, so that Oscape produces LOD based on the new, different ground textures ?

There's not a great deal of information or tutorials about this and the wiki is pretty vague. I wish people would post in depth , easy to follow informative tutorials and not just 'do this, this, this, then this'. Those kind of instructions are easy to follow, if you've done the task before and need a quick refresher.

Another slight problem.

I decided to go for a swim in the new world, but it only contains LOD water. When I approach, the water disappears. Any ideas ?
