New worldspace - grass appears in the CK but NO grass ingame

Post » Thu Jun 21, 2012 12:55 pm

Hi all

I've looked and it seems some people have the same problem, but since I've not seen a detailed topic I've decide to create a new one.

I know about this:

http://www.creationkit.com/World_Spaces
http://www.creationkit.com/Landscape
And for example this tutorial: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=W0XYJm1nWec

I've tried with parent worldspace and without, I've tried with the land at 0 and other heights, same for water. Grass always shows in the CK but it doesn't appear in game, here's the last trial (images):

http://www.mediafire.com/convkey/8c00/x36bx5xz56gcaa05g.jpg

In the CK:

Ingame:

http://www.mediafire.com/convkey/f029/jnz2f649c1dq5wc5g.jpg

As you can see the texture appears but no 3D models for grass.

Video of the problem (only 2 minutes): http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=wv0qNf_pl9s&feature=youtu.be

Help?

Thanks.

Your 'In the CK' link 404's. If you provide a picture there it would help.

Did you use the right texture? There are three fall forest grass textures. Normal, no ferns, and no grass. Normal has little grass clumps as well as the red ferns, no ferns has just grass clumps, and no grass has nothing. It looks like you used the 'No grass' variant. But, again, a picture will help.

Hmm, odd it appears to look right in the CK.

You're sure you used the plain varient of the texture? Also, click the toggle on the toolbar for grass (it's a little picture of blades of grass) to see if when you turn it back on if the grass dissapears.

Hmmm, weird. I'm not sure what would prevent it from showing up ingame.

Though I didn't know you could use CoC for named exterior cells, so that's cool...

The very fact that you can coc into it, shows that the worldspace is not set up right.

Black RL, I noticed that you have set you worldspace in Tamriel. You have also set up your island at coords 0,0. This is just outside Whiterun. How could you possibly have all that sea and an island bang square in the middle of Tamriel ?

You would have to give your worldspace its own name without a parent, or find a point (in the sea) on the Tamriel map and create a worldspace there and fill in the x and y offsets. Look at the other Tamriel worldspaces and see how they are setup.

As for the grass not showing, probably something to do with the fact that you are about 5km above or below Tamriel lod level. I also think the region editor may play a role here as well, but I haven't used it yet.

Long story short, create your own worldspace without a parent, give it x,y usable dimensions (yours looks like 16x16). Set land to -512 and water to 0. Build up land at coors 0,0 and texture it. Save, go ingame and type cow yourworld 0,0 in the console. It should be there with the grass.

Also set cell coords as -

-8 8
8 -8

I've just started on worldspaces myself, but this way seems to work. LOD is a whole different matter, but for a small island, you won't need it.

Trty this and see how you get on.

I've tried the no parent solution but I'm going to try what you are explaining and will report back.

And it must be a bug, doesn't work:

Btw, all images and video of the first post are without parent too.

Many thanks for the attention, any more ideas?

Strange. The only other thing I can think of is, there are settings in one of the .ini files that relate to grass, but if your grass shows up in the normal game, then I'm stumped.

Have you tried it with a few different grass textures ?

Game grass shows ok.

At this point I've tried almost everything :(

Btw, does your grass show properly?

Lol, I'm still sculpting the worldspace. I suppose I could do a little bit of texture as a test and see how it turns out.

I'll post back.

Mine shows up OK, see below.

http://homepage.ntlworld.com/tambos.turf/Skyrim/Skyrim_Grass.jpg

I think someone/some folk had a similar problem to yours a while ago and their vanilla grass was not showing ingame. I can't remember what the solution was, but it may have had something to do with the .ini files (as mentioned earlier).

I'll post my .ini settings for grass and you can see if it helps.

Skyrim.ini (My Documents -> My Games -> Skyrim)

[Grass]
b30GrassVS=0
bAllowLoadGrass=0
bAllowCreateGrass=1
bDrawShaderGrass=1

SkyrimEditor.ini (Same folder as TESV.exe and CreationKit.exe)

[Grass]
iMinGrassSize=20
bGrassPointLighting=0
bDrawShaderGrass=1
iGrassDensityEvalSize=2
iMaxGrassTypesPerTexure=2
fWaveOffsetRange=1.7500
fGrassWindMagnitudeMax=125.0000
fGrassWindMagnitudeMin=5.0000
fTexturePctThreshold=0.0000
fGrassMinStartFadeDistance=0.0
fGrassMaxStartFadeDistance=7000.0
fGrassDefaultStartFadeDistance=3500.0
fGrassFadeRange=1000.0
bAllowCreateGrass=1
bAllowLoadGrass=0

Look at those two files in Notepad and compare the settings above with your own, under the [Grass] section. If there are some missing, just paste them in from the settings above.

I have seen people have similar issues but with custom made grass textures, and I have not been able to help them out. I'll send this information along and see if this could solve there problem.
Thanks :)

Yay :banana: glad it worked

Nice :biggrin:

[Edit]
This actually makes me think, how many people out there do not have those settings in their .ini files and are not seeing other folks worldscape mods, with grass.

[Edit 2]
I wonder if this only happens with .esp files ? It's possible that .esm files don't need the settings changed, to show the grass. Can anyone confirm ?

I think it only happens in .esp because I could see grass in the "normal" game.

I see all the grass in my mod (Which is an esm), and all of my testers do as well. I think it's only esp's?
