3DS Max or Blender?

Post » Thu Jun 21, 2012 5:25 pm

Hey everyone,

I've wanted to get my own weapon models into Skyrim for a while now. I have blender, but i have Nifskopes and everything else, but yet im still having trouble. Id like to make a standalone model (one that doesn't replace one of the current skyrim sword models) but i can't figure it out, even with tuts. I'm wondering if I should download 3ds Max.

Thanks

If you can afford it, go for it..... not sure what you expect to gain with 3DS over Blender? Very few tuts for either.
Where are you getting stuck?

If you've already made the basic model http://tesalliance.org/forums/index.php?/topic/4634-3d-craftworks-importing-weapons-into-skyrim/ to help get it into Skyrim.

If you are using say steelsword.nif as your template nif file, this does not replace the steel sword in the game with your weapon. So you can do this and still have your weapon + the steel sword in the game. You sort this out later on in the Creation Kit, when you create a new 'form'(essentially a weapon object) for your sword instead of using the steel sword's form, which would replace it.

Hope i could help clear up some things about the general workflow of the CK, though i dont know much about Blender > Nifskope > Skyrim workflow sorry,
