Precompute Occlusion...what is it exactly ?

Post » Thu Jun 21, 2012 7:51 am

I'm working on a largish worldspace and I was wondering if anybody has any idea what Precompute Occlusion is and how exactly do you use the tool ?

There is also a Batch precompute occlusion...button, which I assume is meant to be used if you want to do this in stages,...again, how ?

Has anybody had any experience on using this function ? Can't seem to find anything in the wiki about it.

I'm not sure how to make it or what exactly you want to do in the editors, but I know what it does.

In Skyrim, stand at the base of a hill, then using 'TFC' in the console, pan the camera over the hill. You'll notice that nothing behind the mountain, or out of site of the player renders. It figures out where mountains block your view, so the game isn't loading the ENTIRE map's LOD all at once. It only loads what the player can see, blocking the stuff behind mountains.
