Get a PC version just for the C.C.?

Post » Thu Jun 21, 2012 3:40 pm

So, I play a PS3 copy of Skyrim, and am competent with 3-D modelling etc; obviously the news of the creation kit sparked my interest,
q1: Is it worth getting a PC copy as well, especially considering the expansion for PC as well as I will be able to have a lot of fun modding it.
q2: Can you import stuff you've made in other programs to use as models in the creation kit, then make them interactive etc?
(coming from someone who hasn't used the creation-kit yet, obviously)

1. If you want to mod, you have to have the PC version ... So I guess if you want to mod, then you'll have to get the PC version ;)
2. Yes - But it must be imported with all of the correct animation stuff (3DS Max/Blender and a couple of otheer third party tools) ... plenty of advice about on these boards about that

Cool. Yeah I also just thought now, it means a portable copy of Skyrim, since I'd be installing it on a new laptop I bought about 4 months back. That excites me. The main decision was also the expansion pack, I don't want to buy that twice, so before it comes out I wanted to decide and if so, get a PC character up to level cap for it's release, I'm guessing I will go with it though considering, as you say, it's the only way to mod

Don't know why some of you choose to have font sizes I can barely read. Is your monitor a magnifying glass?

1. The truth is, you are able to use mods and better textures on the PC-Version. And I am also used to game on the pc. That is why I chose for the PC-Version.
2. I think this is possible, yes, with the right 3d-models extensions ofcourse.

My monitor is actually a magnifying glass, yes.
I actually don't think size 10 is unreasonable, it's quite readable to me even a few feet from the screen...

Too cool mate. I think I've made the decision, now just to wait 'till an appropriate payday where I don't have to buy many things :)

Yes, Nicholas 10pt font is pretty large on a monitor with 800x600 resolution, but some of us are using higher resolution monitors so your 10pt font is barely readable. Please take my word for it, at 2560x1600, it is positively tiny and I have to lean in close to the monitor to see it. While you can certainly use whatever font you want, I would think that asking for help would generally be more successful for you if the request is more easily read by the more serious modders. Who are also more likely to have invested in larger monitors with higher resolutions.

I would like to offer you one more piece of friendly advice before I go. You can take it or leave it as you see fit. Skyrim is an incredibly complex system to mod for no matter what other experience you might have. You are going to run into many difficult and puzzling situations regardless of what type of mods you fancy and I imagine you are going to have lots of questions. When you come back to ask them, most of the answers you seek will lie with the more experienced modders in the community. Terra Nova will be one of those and he will have the answers to most of your questions. If you look over under his avatar you can see the ranking and experience he has attained here. A little respect and politeness goes a long way toward giving those more experienced modders a reason to take some time out of their day to help you when you need them.

Fair enough. I suppose I am only running 1366x7something ... (800x600 lolwhat?)

Pfft. Would you let god insult you?
In any case I took extra care not to come across rudely. I responded to their joke, and basically said it looks fine to me. That's not disrespectful.

Sure sure. It's a certain thing that I'll be getting a PC copy now. And will be expanding my PC game as opposed to my PS3 one, shame to leave my character behind but there are a few little choices in the perks I'd like another chance to correct.
Mhm. I don't know how much of a modeller the creation kit is, I was just assuming none. I've only seen videos of content that I thought all could have been made with pre-existing models.

I'll have to re-watch all of the official tutorial videos for a re-cap that got posted on youtube when I get the creation kit and the PC version. Should be fun in any case even with a few bugs, I've seen people create some truly amazing things with it.
