[Problem] Landscape textures tinted?

Post » Thu Jun 21, 2012 10:29 am

Hey there, first off, thanks for peeking in! :DD
Im quite new to the CK, but not totally, and a couple of friends and I decided to take on a challenge -
rebuilding Winterhold, with NPC's, Interiors,..., and then connecting it to a questline etc.
My task is the re-shaping of the Landscape and the exterior city.
But as I started shaping the ladscape and texturing it, differents colour tints make it look rather weird.
I think it stays where i.e. a riverbed was and the brownish tint from the texture stays, but no the texture.
Or it stays blue where once a glacier was located.

How do I get rid of that?
Thanks for your help,

Ulf!

Trying to reproduce your problem I opened the "WindhelmWorld" worldspace and began repainting the Windhelm area! I noticed that there are several areas inside windhelm which cannot be repainted, so I opened "WindhelmPitWorldspace" instead - this worldspace allowed me to repaint the area inside the walls of windhelm! I don't know which worldspace you're working in, but you could try a combination! I also tried loading the "Tamriel" worldspace, in which I also was able to repaint the entire Windhelm area (city and surrounding terrain)

In any case, as both "WindhelmWorld" and "WindhelmPitWorldspace" are child worldspaces of "Tamriel" you'll need to update the lod textures of tamriel in order for your world lod to properly display your texture changes! This can be done with Oscape! This is because both WindhelmWorld and WindhelmPitWorldspace use the lod's from tamriel (which again is why they are called child-spaces)

Generally it's a bad idea to go messing with the vanilla setup on such a scale. More often than not, you'll end up breaking the game.

@KDashnaw

Thanks for you reply!
I looked a bit around, but since Windhelm itself is located in the Tamriel worldspace,
There are no other worldspaces for it that i could combine.
But the fact that you could repaint everything in the Tamriel worldspace is strange,
because i couldn't, at least not the Windhelm area, what shouldn't make any difference, but who knows...

I am not very familiar with Oscape, but I guess there are plenty of tut's that I can use.
Anyway, the lod's are not important as long as the terrain itself is not finished.
Does the Map in Skyrim use the Tamriel lod, or how does it work? I already thought about the map a couple of times,
but decided to deal with the other Problems first.

@Tamb0

I know (or we know) that it will most likely crash the game to pieces, even the rendering power you'd need for a whole city in the Tamriel space would crash it I'd suggest..., but that's not our point. It wion't be a released mod, it is just some kind of hard training lesson, you could say.
It's always good to watch tut's or anything, but that won't stay in your mind for long, dealing with it yourself is way more helpful for remembering the kind of routine.
Thanks for your reply anyway. ;D

OneEyedUlf:

Yes, Skyrim is a part of the tamriel worldspace (and as such uses the tamriel lod)! As you mention re-shaping the terrain around windhelm, I could imagine that you've run into the lod! Usually the distant terrain lod runs right beneath the surface, so that as you (the player) approaches a cell, the detailed terrain is written on top of the distant terrain!

However, to confirm whether what you're seeing is in fact the distant lod terrain, or not, right-click in your render window (in the CK), choose "Render Window Properties", next "LOD", and untick "Enable Landscape LOD", which should hide everything related to landscape lods!
Can you confirm if its the lods that are causing the problem, or not?
